Cisco-Linksys WMB54G Wireless-G Music Bridge Review

First off, a little background... I consider myself fairly skilled at using computers.. I have been using them for 25+ years and have installed operating systems, configured routers, set up wireless networks, recovered systems from virus crashes, etc. Reading the below reviews I thought that while installing the music bridge might be a bit tricky, I could handle it.
WOW. I don't know where to begin. This product has the worst documentation I've ever seen, both in the box and online. I spent 10+ hours getting this to work on my system, plus another hour un-doing damage to my system registry after the Music Bridge driver conflicted with another driver in my system and caused a crash.
Having said that, I finally have it up and running and it is operating as promised, though using 100% of my CPU power and thus causing the computer to run very slowly.
Reading the support forum on the linksys site, the people that have the fewest problems installing this equipment are those that don't have routers. Ironically, though Linksys (and Cisco) are router companies, the instructions do not include the special steps that must be taken to re-configure your router so it will connect with the bridge.
Be warned - this is not plug and play and you may very well spend a lot of frustrating time trying to get it to work. Once it is working there are many idiosyncracies (eg having to close and open your music player to get it to play through the bridge) that you would not expect from a well-designed piece of hard/software.
This is a bargain for a reason - I'd suggest you spend a little more and find something better. Good luck!!

Samson AirLine 77 UHF TD Headset Wireless QE Microphone System, Channel N3 Review

Samson AirLine 77 UHF TD Headset Wireless QE Microphone System, Channel N3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this mic system for our new fitness studio. The setup was pretty straight-forward and I got it working right away. The headset is comfortable.
If you turn the receiver on and the microphone is not turned on, horrible static comes out of the amplifier. I don't know if this is normal but it's a huge headache for our instructors to remember the proper order to turn the mic and receiver on and then have to turn them off in the reverse order.
You have to put the mic right up to your lips to get decent sound. Kind of annoying when it's a shared mic. The amp is not small, either. There is also frequent static that comes through the sound. I don't know why or where it's coming from but it breaks up the energy of a yoga class.
Another issue is the reliability. Our receiver went dead after 6 months. Amazon told me to contact the manufacturer who directed me to the service company in Arizone. When you're counting on it everyday, it's not feasible to send it for repair indefinitely so I have to purchase another one for another $300! Ug.

Logitech Harmony RF Wireless Extender Review

Logitech Harmony RF Wireless Extender
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Logitech Harmony RF Wireless Extender allows your RF-equipped Harmony Remote (the 890, 895 or new 1000) to control components without having an IR "line of sight" to the components. One RF Wireless Extender is included with the Harmony 890, but it is unfortunately not included with the Harmony 1000.
Make no mistake, this device is an absolute REQUIREMENT for any large room or complex setup. In my configuration, the Harmony 1000 didn't have the strength to power all of my components through IR from 20 feet distance. The RF extender solved this problem, and now I can control my entire setup even from another room.
One RF Wireless Extender can control up to 8 components within the line of sight of the unit, or within line of sight of the 8 included IR emitters. You can add multiple extenders to your configuration if you have components in different rooms or areas that could not be served by one unit. Annoyingly, even if you have more than 8 components within the reach of the unit or the emitters the Harmony software won't let you assign more than 8 devices to a single extender.
IMPORTANT: You should try to setup and verify your Harmony configuration using IR-only if possible before adding the extender, even if you have to sit near your components or have cabinet doors open. This is because the Harmony software makes you connect and disconnect both the extender (which must be unplugged from AC power) and the remote each time you make a change. Setting up the Harmony first, by itself, with IR is much easier to make changes to the configuration.
After verifying I could control my components using IR-only, I added the RF Wireless Extender to my setup. The Harmony software updated to the latest firmware, and I have had no problems configuring it using both Mac OS X and Windows clients.
Setup is very easy. If all of your components are behind a cabinet, you can simply mount this "blaster" unit inside, at least 10 inches from the front of your components. Or, you can attach the 8 included wired emitters (in 4 pairs of 2) near the IR receivers of each component. The wires for each of the 4 pairs are roughly 7 feet long, splitting into 2 emitters that must be placed within 25 inches of each other. Also good to note is that the tape is strong enough to attach to your component, but not strong enough to leave any residue should you need to remove them.
Within the Harmony setup, you then assign each component to either IR or RF Extender control. Optionally, you can assign each component to a channel (A,B,C,D,blaster) which corresponds to the 4 sets of 2 wired emitters and base, or all channels which sends all commands to all emitters. I chose to specifically assign each component to its channel, which seems to give better performance. (TIP: label your emitter wires!)
Once configured, you connect the RF Extender and the Harmony Remote to your computer to download the configuration. Then, you must plug the RF Extender into the wall, and optionally attach the IR emitter wires. The Harmony remote must initially be "paired" with the RF Extender, which is done by pressing the "Connect" button on the extender, and following the prompts on your remote.
Operation was flawless. I could control all components from around my house! And, the performance of startup was much faster, I believe because I had assigned each component to a specific channel on the extender.
In my configuration, I was pleasantly surprised to find the RF extender is fast enough to send the repeated command sequences needed to accelerate up and down through the menus in my AppleTV. Great job, Logitech!
If there was one area where Logitech could make improvements it would be the supplied documentation, which attempts to be user friendly but in the process is so oversimplified it is of little use. Since Amazon doesn't allow half-star increments, I stand by my 5-star review, documentation withstanding.
Based on the large number of problems people had when this was first released a year ago, I was expecting issues, but it would appear that the latest firmware (RF Extender v2.4, Harmony 890 v4.7) and Harmony client software (v7.0.2) have resolved all issues for both Mac OS X and Windows users.
All in all, a highly recommended product - and a great value bundled with the matching Harmony 890 (see my review there). I have since upgraded to the Harmony 1000, but kept this extender to use with it. It's a shame that Logitech doesn't include the extender with the 1000, as it really is a requirement.
I would recommend this without hesitation.

Sony Walkman NWZS545BLK 16 GB Video MP3 Player (Black) Review

Sony Walkman NWZS545BLK 16 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When searching for a new mp3 player the trail always leads me back to Sony. Its more about overall quality then brand loyalty. Over the years Sony's Walkman line has gone the distance and more. The all new Sony S Series Walkman adds to the legacy.
The S-545 16gb Walkman brings it on with a crisp, color enhanced 2.4" LCD screen that is easy on the eyes. At 2" x 4" x .4", it comes in a bit larger then its older cousin. A larger body undoubtedly is required to provide support for the external speaker system. The speakers won't get confused with my home system anytime soon but they do provide an excellent source. With headphones on, this mp3 player delivers a cornucopia of sound. Missing but not that noticeable is the noise reduction feature. The on board equalizer can be tweaked to one's own preferences or users can choose one of the six presets.
The Navigation pad located directly under the screen is a breeze to operate. Three controls are located on the right side of the unit. One locks in the controls. The second one allows for easy switching from speaker to headset. Volume is the third control. The standard headphone jack and a USB port can be found on the bottom of the unit. The detachable flip out stand is an okay feature that allows for easy standing on my desk or shelf top. I would have preferred that it was permanently mounted.
The S-545 supports mp3, mp4, AAC, AVC, WMV, WMA, and PCM. PCM is Sony's version of WAV. It pairs well with Napster To Go. Its hit and miss with Rhapsody To Go. Sometimes its a smooth transfer, other times its not. Downloading my playlists from Windows Media Player was a breeze without the usual hiccups associated with older mp3 players.
Amazon video is a new option that is also supported. Video can be synced from my computer as well. I've never been big on downloading video to my player. I did download a couple of photographs on this model. The display was outstanding. Unlike my older Walkman, this model doesn't offer the wallpaper photo display option.
The built in FM tuner picked up all ten of my stations. With auto scanner functionality, thirty preset slots are available. The FM radio is crystal clear when using the headset as an antenna. The alarm and timer features are a nice add on. This model also has an impressive on board microphone located on the bottom of the unit. There are three voice settings. Voice playback quality was excellent. Battery life has always been biggie with Sony. On a full charge, I got almost a full thirty five hours of music.
The Sony Walkman S-545 16gb Mp3 player comes packed with a USB cable, flip stand, ear buds, installed operating manual and the standard one year warranty. Body finishes include; black and red in the 16GB model. Pink and violet are additional choices in the 8GB model.
Economically priced, this latest edition to the Walkman line is a durable and reliable product that delivers. Easy to use and loaded with features, the Sony S-545 is a prime time performer.

Kinamax ADS IR Blaster Remote Control Signal Sender Review

A great IR Blaster for my Beyond TV setup. I can control the cable box with this while additional tuners record direct cable connection. This IR emitter allowed me to point my remote at it and it learned the codes needed to control my scientific atlanta Explorer 1850 cable box in about 30 seconds. True it comes with not documents or drivers, but come on, download them from kinamax. Total set up was well under 5 min.

On a completely dead frequency I heard more static than music. Then I'd make a left turn and it would sound great... until I turned again. Very disappointing. I bought this to replace the iRiver AFT100. The iRiver worked much better than the Transdock until it broke. I'm done with these FM Transmitters I think. Either they don't work or they're not built to last.

ezBlast Review

ezBlast
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After a bit of comparison shopping & reading many reviews, I selected this product. It was mainly a decision between this one & Monster's comparable unit. Based on my experience so far with the ezTrip FM TransCharger, here's my opinion:
Pros(not in any order of importance)
1) Bright green LCD which makes it quite visible.
2) You can quickly & easily switch stations across the spectrum by merely selecting the up/down buttons.
3) There is a power button on this unit.
4) Unit is easily removable from both the ipod and the cigarette lighter.
5) It's quite reasonably priced relative to its competitor(s), and I believe the sound quality level has NOT been compromised as a result.
6) It's easy to find a station to use. As a matter of fact, I noticed that this unit can actually overpower major radio stations in my area.
Cons
1) Although the cord does not get in my way, I think it is a little too short.
2) Sound quality is not as good as that of a CD, tape, or your favorite radio stations. However, I understand that this is characteristic of all FM transmitters. For instance, a song with lots of bass will sometimes cause some distortion in my car's speakers.
However, I'm quite satisfied with this unit and its performance level. Even without factoring in the price difference(s), I believe I've chosen the best one. But, your results may vary depending on where you live.
Good luck!

Garmin nĂ¼vi 1490/1490T 5-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic (Factory Refurbished) Review

Garmin nĂ¼vi 1490/1490T 5-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator with Traffic (Factory Refurbished)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK ... First things first. When the 1490 was first released in 2009, the firmware was so buggy that the unit even suffered from spontaneous reboots ... IN MID ROUTE! Occasionally it would not even restart again without the 10 second hold on the on button. THOUSANDS of these units were returned to COSTCO who got the original release. In fact, so many were returned that Garmin actually released this product again ... as a refurbished unit. The only change being loading new firmware and packing it in a white box.
So now ... for under $200 you can get a new ... almost ... Nuvi with the best form factor, feature set, and ... now ... rock solid firmware on the market.
Here is what to do ...
1. Buy this unit ... just get it.
2. As soon as it arrives, scan the Amazon paperwork ... you'll need it for step 4
3. Log on to [...] and attempt to register the unit (you will need the S/N)
4. If you cannot register the unit ... you likely cannot ... call Garmin support (excellent USA based support) and tell them you cannot register your refurbished unit. They will ask you to send them proof of recent purchase ... immediately email the Amazon paperwork scanned in step 2. They will make an entry on the spot and you can register right away. Also explain that you want new maps. They can hook you up with a download of the newest maps since you are a new owner.
5. Download and install Garmin's free Webupdater program. You will need that to get the latest firmware updates. Latest version was issued May 10, 2010 and is version 4.10.
6. Finally ... install in your car and enjoy.
I know, all this takes time. The new map downloads alone are 2 hours, and the scanning thing ... well, just know that it is worth it. The 5" screen is awesome and since the resolution is unchanged, everything is bigger and clearer. Audio is louder and clearer on this model. Battery life is better. Bluetooth now works very well. The eco info is very useful and the traffic is perfect now ... in this latest firmware. Lane assist is 'da bomb. And don't forget about the little extras like an awesome photo viewer and available micro SD slot (I put in an 8 Gig card and Nuvi had no trouble reading it.)
All and all, you score big as a result of Garmin's short sighted decision to release an unfinished product too early. But now that the firmware is fixed ... WOW!!!

Xact XTR1 Sirius Satellite Plug and Play Receiver Review

Xact XTR1 Sirius Satellite Plug and Play Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, the XACT is a very nice receiver. I have owned a PNP2 and this receiver and I prefer this one. The XACT, while not wearable, is very portable. You can even buy the Powerpod and take it anywhere you go. The size of the receiver does come with setbacks though, there are only 10 S-Seeks compared to 20 on most of the other receivers. The screen is smaller (although very nice), and the presets require a little more work to set. The greatest thing though is the service itself. It is great not to hear any commercials, and the music streams are top quality. The Talk, News, and Sports are also great. Sirius recently added a Maxim channel, which is quickly becomming one of my favorites. Sirius's sports are great, I am a fan of football and there is nothing like hearing your team that is normally not carried locally. In the end I recommend this receiver and Sirius.

Samson Stage 5H VHF Handheld Wireless System, Channel 11 Review

Samson Stage 5H VHF Handheld Wireless System, Channel 11

This Samson Stage 5H Wireless System, was a big disappoint for us!
We are knowledgeable on how to set the squelch and various input settings for maximum efficiency, but we could not get a dependable connection when standing just a few feet away from the receiver.
We tried relocating the receiver, but still had numerous "drop outs" when standing just a few feet away from the receiver.
We didn't expect much for the price of this item, but at least it should have worked when standing very close to the receiver. We even tried relocating the receiver to different parts of the stage; but to no avail. We still received numerous signal "drop-outs."
This Samson Model Stage 5H was a huge disappointment; and a waste of money $$$.

Galaxy G20 Keyless Entry Car Alarm with 4 Buttons Review

Galaxy G20 Keyless Entry Car Alarm with 4 Buttons
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, not that I have a wealth of knowledge on car alarms, but I recently had my car broken into for the last time. In my apartment complex I had my car picked clean including spare change and gum about six times. At first I thought it was me. Perhaps I forgot to lock it. But the sixth time, I knew I locked it. Somehow they still got in. And that was it. I wanted to get an alarm and leave my door unlocked and let the little snots get surprised. I went to craigslist of all places and a dealer was advertising this unit for 110 dollars fully installed. Considering that was the best price I saw anywhere of the big box retailers, I was skeptical. So I enquired. This particular installer used to be a "Head installer" for best buy and he stumbled opon this one a few months ago. He too was skeptical, but it had a limited lifetime warranty while most of the alarms in that price range only had one year. So he tried it out. Immediately he began getting good feedback on it from his customers.
So i went with it. He set it up so that the door would automatically lock once the door was closed and the key was out of the ignition. And he hid the flashing blue light under some black electrical tape and said "if they get in, this puppy will go off." He charged 110. 40 for the unit, and 70 for install, plus tax. I went to a friends house and asked for his empty xbox cardbord packaging and packed it up nicely and left it on the back seat. Then I went into my apartment, hoping for a little noise and action. I dressed in running shorts (am in hawaii) and left my shoes on, ate very light and purposefully sat in a chair close to the door, leaving the door and screen open, not latched for easy egress.
So, fast forward 2 hours and watching the news, getting ready to grab a book. I am sitting and low and behold my horn and siren go off. I Exit my apartment just quick enough to catch a glimpse of the culprits hoofin it down the street. I left the siren running, slim jim in the passsenger front door still flapping, door ajar and called the cops by cell while running after them.
saw them go into an apartment, waited for the cops, and kids were arrested. That complex had sixteen police reports in the last year for car breakins and they got fingerprints to compare to, these kids are screwed im thinking . I just finished giving my statement to the police and wanted to put this review up.
The only bad thing about it is I think the siren is a bit soft. I would liked it to be a bit louder, but it was loud enough to draw attention at 11pm at my complex.

Also I do believe the alarm remotes could have been faster reacting. I used to push my factory remote button quickly and it would lock my door. This unit, you have to hold the button down a "tad" longer to get the chirp. That might be why the previous poster was having issues. I would have to say it takes double the amount of time to press the button. If factory remotes were a 1/4 second solid push to lock the door, this took 1/2 second. really not much, but noticeable. Other than that, solid unit so far and the price is right (esp if you can install it yourself). Also I am able to chirp it from at least 25 yards away. I play golf and I am pretty good at pacing off steps and guessing distance. I haven't tested it farther as of yet.
Also dont let the photo fool you. The remotes are smaller than the factory GM remotes and are nice. I would suggest (based on the manual specs) buying spare batteries and keeping them handy as it says it only has a "6 month" life based on average usage. My factory remote from 2004 is still working on original batteries so not sure what that means.

Audiovox Sirius SUPH1 Dock & Play Home Kit (Black) Review

I bought this after signing up for Amazon Prime. Received it in two days at no extra charge. Hooked it up to my Onkyo receiver and ran the antenna cable outside...I had to drill a hole through the wall to get the cable outside, behind my components. I put two screws onto the outside edge of the overhang of the roof and mounted the antenna. Came inside, hooked up all the wires to the dock and plugged in my Sportster 4.
I got the full 3 bars of signal strength and am enjoying my Sirius Satelite Radio as I'm typing this review. I am trully happy with this purchase and it's about $10 cheaper than Circuit City or Best Buy.
So long as you mount the antenna as the directions state, I don't think anyone should have a problem with the reception. The instructions included show what direction the antenna should be pointing depending on what part of the country you live...also...the optimum position for the antenna is pointing straight up.

The kit is designed around a handymounting cradle, which holds your receiver in a single easy-to-access location. Just slideyour Sirius receiver into the cradle and rest it on a tabletop, desk, bookshelf, orentertainment center. Once the receiver is mounted, users have two listening options:they can rely on the receiver's built-in FM transmitter, or they can run the included RCAaudio cable between the cradle's audio output and the stereo. The latter option deliversa better overall sound, but is slightly more cumbersome. XTR8 Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver and Car Kit Review

XTR8 Sirius Satellite Radio Receiver and Car Kit

I have had this product since December 22, 2005. My use typically involves keeping it in my car, and then moving it into my office, and so on. In about March of this year, the radio began to intermittently shut off when I hit bumps or stopped suddenly. I would have to jiggle the power cord (which fits into jack on the side of the radio) in order to make it work. This power outage began to occur more and more often, and then began to become problematic even while the radio was just sitting on the shelf in my office. Calls to Sirius and then to Xact proved frustrating. Xact had unreasonable demands in order to provide warranty service, and didn't offer much help. They were reluctant and, in fact refused to give me the address of the main office of Xact, as I had wished to inform Xact's president of their shoddy service. In any event, as of yesterday, the radio died completely...no power cord jiggling miracle! I can either buy a new radio or send it to them and wait for them to take their time to return it. I am choosing to buy another radio.
While this radio functioned quite nicely at first, it is not reliable, as you can tell from this and the other reviews...terrible customer service from the company exacorbates the situation. Stay away from Xact...

I bought this July 6th 2010. I was leary of the size, quality & lack of any reviews on anything car video. I got it in @ 3 days in a box filled w/ packing, unmarred, & no issues with the monitor or dvd to this date. I will update.
After unboxing it all the way up until it was installed I thought it may be too big and would be too close for the kids. It fits perfectly between the headrests & right behind the overhead light in my Expedition. Kids absolutely love it, picture quality is great, and I can't wait to tailgate with it after I get an external antenna.
FYI
*You will wanna keep the overhead light if possible because there is no door light just manual switches & it sets it back far enough when flipped down that it is not in the front seats vision.
*The bundle with the 2 IR headsets W/ transmitter is a good deal. You do not need the transmitter though as the Monitor already has one built. Reason I put this in is I did not read that on the box for some reason, until about 30 mins of trying to figure out how to wire in and mount (hide) the ugly transmitter did I finally notice it on the box (friend of mine read it & I felt stupid)
*There are no speakers on this unit you must use FM Modulator or Headsets
Installation
Here is what I did to install it if you are interested. I tried looking for something like this before I started but couldn't find anything anywhere. It was a fairly easy install and will save you a small bundle if you got some mechanical ability and a helping hand. Hope this helps.
Removed headliner, centered & riveted a metal mounting plate across 2 roof beams, used expanding foam on plate to reduce noise, robbed power from the overhead lights, cut small hole just right of mouting plate in headliner to drop power cord, reinstalled headliner & secured manufacturer mounting bracket to mounting plate. Here is my one complaint the screws to mount the montior to the bracket are too small. They should have screw studs attached to the mounting backet so you can nut it up, would have been a hell of a lot easier. I had a friend use 2 hole punches to center it and luckily I got one screw to finally catch. That was the hardest part of the hole project and really didnt need to be that difficult. Those little screws make me a little nervous so I'll eventually replace them bigger self tappers that go through the headliner to the mounting plate. It took me @ 6 hrs to complete and I couldn't be happier.

This is one of the worst mics I have ever purchased. While holding the mic you can hear your hand rubbing against the mic very loud through the sound system. The sound quality is ok but the noise you hear while holding the mic is unbearable.
