Scytek Galaxy 5000RS-2W Two-Way Remote Security and Engine Start System Review

Scytek Galaxy 5000RS-2W Two-Way Remote Security and Engine Start System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Make sure you use the wiring harness to save time. Also pep boys carries relays, some which are made just for the power windows.
Pros
Functionality was great-always did what I wanted it to
Cool features, like knowing how cold it is in your car from inside
Nice to know if your car is locked by a glance of the remote
Cons
Remotes seem to use up batteries quickly
Remote is made very cheaply
Hard to adjust sensors just right, as to not get false alarms, but make it sensitive enough
I would probably buy this system again. I sold the car it was in, so dunno if it still works.

My Original Car Alarm remote was damaged and I was going to replace everything, as in the Car Alarm System itself. So, I was about to take everything apart due to every time I open my car the alarm goes off, when I mechanic friend of mine told me to search the web for the remote itself. I started searching the internet for a replacement, when I came across this replacement car alarm remote for Python 990 Alarm System. First of all good price and looks exactly the same as the original and it came with the clear but easy to do instructions. Programming the remote was easy as 1 2 3, after trying once to program the remote,it programmed immediately, I was using it in no time.

If you know how to install alarms this is for you. I had the car wiring diagram Older model Toyota Camry. I'm eletronicly capable knowledge wise and like to tackle things. I opted after trying it myself to have a car stereo place install it for $25. Works well otherwise. Simple alarm/door remote if thats what you are looking for. Toy alarm loudness which is not good.
I was looking for something just to operate my power door locks other than the $250 factory.

Alarm has problems, it keeps disarming (silently) and unlocking doors in the middle of the night. Unable to get Pyle Support to respond to Phone or Emails.

Protect one of your most expensive investments--along with all the electronic equipment inside--with the Pyle PWD201 vehicle security system. Outfitted with a pair of two-button transmitters that fit conveniently on a keychain, the PWD201 is a must for folks who live in neighborhoods with high break-in rates, or for users who simply want to rest easy when parked in an unfamiliar locale. Once armed, the alarm will trigger if any of the following occurs: the doors are opened, the shock sensor detects a disturbance on the vehicle, or the hood or trunk is opened. The 125 dB, six-tone siren will keep almost any thief on his or her heels, as will the honking horn and flashing parking lights. Meanwhile, the dual-stage shock sensor also detects light impacts to the vehicle's side. The shock sensor chirps and activates the parking lights to warn away potential intruders before they smash a window or jimmy a car door.
The system offers a number of security extras in addition to the standard alarm functions, such as an ignition lock that automatically locks the doors five seconds after the car is turned on and a remote panic siren that sounds for 30 seconds to attract attention. And should you lose the transmitter, you can still deactivate the alarm by using the LED emergency override feature.
Other features include a tamper alert that lets you know if the alarm has been triggered. a valet mode that disables the alarm functions, an anti-carjack mode that will kill the starter until deactivated, passive or active arming, and a host of optional features that can be programmed during installation, such as keyless entry, remote trunk release, and remote auto start.
Additional Features
Built-in relay for parking lights
LED emergency override switch
Door lock outputs
Electronic dual-stage shock sensor
125 dB 6-tone siren
Auxiliary, dome light, and horn honk outputs

Crime Stopper RS-1304DP Remote Vehicle Engine Starter and Keyless Entry System Review

Crime Stopper RS-1304DP Remote Vehicle Engine Starter and Keyless Entry System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The item description is completely false. When you open up the box it becomes painfully evident that there is a LOT of wiring to do. In fact, I called the tech support number and the guy told me that he doesn't recommend anyone install this themselves because of the pitfalls involved with all of the wiring which could actually ruin your car's computer system which, as you might know, isn't cheap. Not only that, but he also told me that crimestopper doesn't even sell their equipment to non-authorized dealers, Amazon buys it from a 3rd party vendor. So guess what that means . . . no warranty on the item! If you are attracted to this item because of the direct plug in myth and the promise of a hassle free install, turn around now!

Add a little extra convenience to your morning commute with the Crime Stopper RS-1304DP remote keyless entry/engine starter. Also ideal for cold evenings, the device lets you warm up your car's engine from a distance while you relax in your living room or pay the restaurant tab. Once you arrive at the car, the engine and heater will be nice and warm, so you don't have to shiver uncontrollably for the first five minutes of the drive. Users have several different startup choices: they can start the car with the push of a button, they can program the car to start once the doors unlock, or they can program the starter to engage at a specific time. The car will then run unattended until the user shows up. And should you get waylaid by a friend or a phone call, the starter is programmed to shut off within a window of 12 to 48 minutes.
The RS-1304DP conveniently plugs into to your car's data-linking starter module via its data port, which requires no hardwiring or other cumbersome connections. And thanks to the many programmable modes, the RS-1304DP responds to a variety of remote requests. Among the programmable engine sensing modes are ultra-smart tachless, tach reference, and preset starter cranking. The unit also lets you pop the trunk or turn on the dome light from a distance. And to ensure added safety, the engine can be programmed not to start if the front hood is open. Other convenience features include a horn chirp confirmation each time you lock or unlock the doors, an idle down and infinity mode, and a valet mode that bypasses the starter function when others are parking the car.
The RS-1304DP works with both gas and diesel engines and its pair of four-button transmitters be synched to both family cars for maximum convenience. It also employs an on-glass antenna to ensure the longest possible range.

2-vehicle function

Avital 823001/2300 2300 Security System Review

Avital 823001/2300 2300 Security System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this unit and had it professionally installed in March 2002. It's been nothing but trouble since then. Began having false alarms after only 3 months. There's no rhyme or reason to the false alarms; they just occur randomly. Went back to the dealer and, after considerable arguing, they replaced the control module, at my insistence. At the time it was still under the one-year full manufacturer's warranty. In May 2005, it began doing the same thing all over again! This unit cost me $308.20 including installation. I did considerable research before I bought it and thought it was a quality product, as it's advertised as "top of the line." (What a joke!) Called a local dealer after the second round of problems began in May 2005 and they said the limited warranty repair charge would be $45 plus about $55 labor. (Around $100 total.) As of April 2008, it's still giving me problems and appears to be getting worse. As a result, I have to park the car in my garage most of the time to keep the false alarms from disturbing the neighborhood. Needless to say, I won't be buying another DEI Avital. Spend your money on something other than this poor quality unit!

Galaxy G20 Keyless Entry Car Alarm with 4 Buttons Review

Galaxy G20 Keyless Entry Car Alarm with 4 Buttons
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Okay, not that I have a wealth of knowledge on car alarms, but I recently had my car broken into for the last time. In my apartment complex I had my car picked clean including spare change and gum about six times. At first I thought it was me. Perhaps I forgot to lock it. But the sixth time, I knew I locked it. Somehow they still got in. And that was it. I wanted to get an alarm and leave my door unlocked and let the little snots get surprised. I went to craigslist of all places and a dealer was advertising this unit for 110 dollars fully installed. Considering that was the best price I saw anywhere of the big box retailers, I was skeptical. So I enquired. This particular installer used to be a "Head installer" for best buy and he stumbled opon this one a few months ago. He too was skeptical, but it had a limited lifetime warranty while most of the alarms in that price range only had one year. So he tried it out. Immediately he began getting good feedback on it from his customers.
So i went with it. He set it up so that the door would automatically lock once the door was closed and the key was out of the ignition. And he hid the flashing blue light under some black electrical tape and said "if they get in, this puppy will go off." He charged 110. 40 for the unit, and 70 for install, plus tax. I went to a friends house and asked for his empty xbox cardbord packaging and packed it up nicely and left it on the back seat. Then I went into my apartment, hoping for a little noise and action. I dressed in running shorts (am in hawaii) and left my shoes on, ate very light and purposefully sat in a chair close to the door, leaving the door and screen open, not latched for easy egress.
So, fast forward 2 hours and watching the news, getting ready to grab a book. I am sitting and low and behold my horn and siren go off. I Exit my apartment just quick enough to catch a glimpse of the culprits hoofin it down the street. I left the siren running, slim jim in the passsenger front door still flapping, door ajar and called the cops by cell while running after them.
saw them go into an apartment, waited for the cops, and kids were arrested. That complex had sixteen police reports in the last year for car breakins and they got fingerprints to compare to, these kids are screwed im thinking . I just finished giving my statement to the police and wanted to put this review up.
The only bad thing about it is I think the siren is a bit soft. I would liked it to be a bit louder, but it was loud enough to draw attention at 11pm at my complex.

Also I do believe the alarm remotes could have been faster reacting. I used to push my factory remote button quickly and it would lock my door. This unit, you have to hold the button down a "tad" longer to get the chirp. That might be why the previous poster was having issues. I would have to say it takes double the amount of time to press the button. If factory remotes were a 1/4 second solid push to lock the door, this took 1/2 second. really not much, but noticeable. Other than that, solid unit so far and the price is right (esp if you can install it yourself). Also I am able to chirp it from at least 25 yards away. I play golf and I am pretty good at pacing off steps and guessing distance. I haven't tested it farther as of yet.
Also dont let the photo fool you. The remotes are smaller than the factory GM remotes and are nice. I would suggest (based on the manual specs) buying spare batteries and keeping them handy as it says it only has a "6 month" life based on average usage. My factory remote from 2004 is still working on original batteries so not sure what that means.

Replacement Remotes Review

Replacement Remotes
Average Reviews:

I purchased this replacement remote with little hope that it would be as good as the original... but it really is! I can start my car from hundreds of feet away, and it took me about 2 minutes to figure out how to program it to my car specifically. It does everything the original does, and looks just like it. The range if fantastic, set-up was easy, and I just couldn't ask for anything more.

Astra ASTRA600 6-Relay Car Alarm with 5-Button Remote Review

Astra ASTRA600 6-Relay Car Alarm with 5-Button Remote
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this alarm because it had exactly the features I was looking for at a reasonable price. The installation was very passive, without all the annoying alarms that ask a passerby to step back, or huge lcd readout on the keychain.
The first problem was that the trunk would randomly pop when the alarm was turned off. Not all the time, but enough that it required checking every time the doors were unlocked. Then the door locking became unreliable.
For the install time and frustration in use, this rate very poorly with me.

Viper 488V Led 2-Way Remote Review

Viper 488V Led 2-Way Remote
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The 2-way feature is great on this remote. But just because you're paying 50-100 for this remote, don't expect it to be high-quality. I've owned two in the past, and each one has broken the same way. The first problem- Solder joints. After a couple of months, the solder joints (on both) would break, especially around the battery terminals. Easy fix- Simply resolder the joints. Next, the cosmetic paint and light labels will rub off, and thats when things start to go downhill. If you keep it in your pocket like other car remotes, the plastic case will start to break- Notably at the top right corner. Once that happens, the remote looks awful, and the keyring will fall out because the tabs holding the two halves together have weakened too.
On top of all that, the second remote I have sometimes beeps, and sometimes doesn't.
If you want the two-way feature, you can get this. But if you want a solid remote, consider buying the compatible 1-way version, P/N 7141V or 7141 P (python and viper remotes are interchangeable). It will not give you audible feedback, but it will save you frustration. They are compatible with the LED 2-way systems, too.
I sure hope DEI's new systems use better remotes. Its a mystery to me as to why Viper Alarm systems are as popular as they are- nothing but plastic junk in my opinion.
UPDATE:
I picked up a less expensive one-way Viper remote that is compatible with my system (I was tired of throwing down so much $$ for a piece of crap). It is about two months old, and is starting to crack as well.

Viper 474V 4-Button Remote

I had the "older" style FOB and it was relatively bigger than this newer style. I like the smaller and more compact version a lot better. I reprogrammed this on a relatively older alarm system that I bought in 2002 (Viper 500ESP). The instructions on how to program were pretty easy to understand. I had a small problem because my valet switch had broken off due to the installer putting it right by the clutch pedal. Fixed that with a new switch. Then I had a problem with the system not recognizing my door being open due to installer not hooking up the door sensor. Fixed that too and was easily able to reprogram key FOB.
