iConcepts FM Wireless Transmitter and Charging Cradle for iPod (12188C-IP) Review

iConcepts FM Wireless Transmitter and Charging Cradle for iPod (12188C-IP)

I can play my video ipod in this device easily and it holds it very well. The problem is the same problem with all these devices. There is still too much static and the FM channels are pretty crowded already. I hope the technology develops into better forms in the future. This device is a good way to go for now. I have a good holder for my ipod and it plays well.

Belkin All-In-One Accessory Kit for iPod Review

Belkin All-In-One Accessory Kit for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm thankful I bought this product at Costco, because I could take it back for a full refund. The idea is appealing, and a good deal - you get a lot for a good price. But on closer inspection, there are a couple of significant problems:
1. The contents are redundant.
- Cassette adapter gives better sound than FM transmitter in many cases. If you have a car with a cassette player, you wouldn't need the FM transmitter. If your car doesn't have a cassette player, why would you buy a package with a cassette adapter in it?
- Similarly, at home, you'd get better sound on your stereo by using the cables vs the FM transmitter, even if you do have a tuner.
So unless you plan on using your ipod in a car with a cassette player, a car without a cassette player, and with your home stereo system, having cables, a cassette adapter and the FM transmitter is redundant. You may come out cheaper by buying the components you need separately.
2. The case is TERRIBLE! Honestly, if the case had been good, I would've overlooked the redundancy and likely kept the entire package. But the case was a key component for me. The case in this package covers the iPod on the front, back, sides, and bottom. Since the belt clip swivels, to prevent the iPod from falling out of the top, the case has a suction cup (no joke!) on the inside of the back panel. The case opens up in a flip-down style by un-velcro-ing the side panels. You nest your iPod into the case, sticking it to the suction cup, flip the front of the case into postion, and stick the side velcro strips together. Between the case itself, the suction cup, and the bulky belt clip, the iPod is more than twice as thick in the case as it is alone. It's also significantly wider.
My advice - keep shopping.

Tuneflex Aux NANO2 Flex Cradle Charger with 3.5 Audio Cable Review

Tuneflex Aux NANO2 Flex Cradle Charger with 3.5 Audio Cable
Average Reviews:

I originally thought that this unit would charge my iPod, as well as mount it in my vehicle. When I received the unit, however, I found this not to be the case. On a more positive note, it does hold the iPod in a convenient location, and does have a 'pass-thru' port that allows a charger to be connected. The price I paid was ridiculously low, so I can't possibly complain.

DLO TransPod All-in-One Car Solution for iPod (Black) Review

DLO TransPod All-in-One Car Solution for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wasn't expecting a great solution when I purchased this item. I have tried similar products by other manufacturers and was disappointed. However, the Transpod gave me the sound I was looking for in an easy to install and use package.
Interestingly, I bought a direct connect via tape player type unit as well which is theoretically suppossed to deliver better sound quality. However, I found this was not the case at all. The Transpod does a much better job.
My unit also came with an extension bar so it could be mounted higher. This gets it up away from the ashtray. However, the criticisms about getting it to a place where it is safe to operate while driving is a real issue. It's not a big deal for me because I could make changes at lights or before I set out to drive somewhere. For others this may be a more serious problem, but really it isn't a bigger deal than fumbling with a cell phone while driving.
In order for this product to work properly, you need a very clean FM station that is not broadcasting. This is usually not a problem at the extreme ends of the FM broadcasting band in most locations. If this is a problem in your area, you may get static even on a fairly clean channel. I live in the Bay Area and I was able to find several useable channels.
I also think the design is well thought out in terms of travelling and needing to change channels. The device also you to set a number of alternate broadcasting frequencies as presets. This gives you the ability to change your channels easily while commuting. It is also very easy to change channels directly and the display is large and attractive.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy this product. I'm a musician and pretty fussy about sound. I'm completely satisfied with this product and would recommend it to anyone.

Belkin Auto Kit for iPod with Dock Connector (Black) Review

Belkin Auto Kit for iPod with Dock Connector (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am so torn on how to rate this, but I want to say first that I have read a number of reviews here on Amazon and elsewhere complaining about the "static" that this device allegedly produces. Anytime you mix power and sound, you get problems with grounding. There is a device called a "ground loop isolator" (GLI) that will eliminate the buzz. The buzzing is NOT a result of this being a crappy product, it is a result of poorly setup audio inputs in cars (either 3rd party or OEM). If you are not using a GLI, expect to have annoying buzzing when using a device like this, but don't blame it on the device itself.
I am on my second one of these, contemplating buying a third (and no, not because I like to stockpile them and/or waste money). My first one started to come apart between the wire and the part that plugs into the iPod. It may have partially been my fault, as people tend to tug the wire sometimes and it might have pulled loose, but I like to think that this thing should have been able to handle a little bit of that.
So I replaced that first one once it fell apart completely (mostly aggravated at that point by me trying to fix it), and the one I have now always cuts out the left channel. I have to unplug and replug the 1/8" connector over and over again to make good contact. It is highly annoying, and I am ready to replace it again. I think that the first one really might have been a problem of not enough TLC on my end, and the second one could very well be the one bad one out of a batch of many, but I really hesitate to buy a third at this point.
But the reason I am even considering it after all the trouble I have had is that when these things work, they work really well. It charges and plays the music all through one wire, using the audio output of the iPod (so the iPod volume doesn't come into play). It automatically pauses when I turn off my car (might be different from car to car depending on how the power to the 12v outlet is switched in your car) which is very convenient. I wish that it could somehow magically unpause when I started the car back up, but that is technically not very feasible. The bottom line is that when this works, this is an incredible product (that I have yet to find a good competitor for from another company).
Hopefully when and if I buy another one of these, I get a good one.

Noah Company MediaGate MG-IKIT5N1 iPhone/iPod Hands Free USB FM Transmitter iKit (Black) Review

Noah Company MediaGate MG-IKIT5N1 iPhone/iPod Hands Free USB FM Transmitter iKit (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Everything about this product works great except for one important item. First the good things:
1. The transmitter is strong and crisp
2. Works with the iPhone 3g
3. The arm is great - moves around to wherever you wish. Very sturdy.
4. You only need to insert the jack for hands free calling (only need the charger to listen to music).
Overall & originally, I was overjoyed at how well this product worked.
Now, the bad:
1. It doesn't swivel so that you can put the iPhone in landscape/coverflow mode... Not a big deal though... But what IS a big deal:
2. The unit actually "beeps" about once a minute. Sometimes you can hear it really well (listening to talk radio), and sometimes not at all (but usually you will hear at least one beep every five minutes or so). I wrote the MediaGate Tech Support, and their reply was:
"The reason for it beeping every 30 seconds or so is in order for the FM transmitter and FM radio to stay active and not in idle mode, it requires the unit to beep. This is a normal feature but unfortunately there is no way of turning this off."
I'm not sure if I am going to return this yet; but I have a feeling it could go one of two ways... Either it drives me insane, or I just start not hearing it like a grandfather clock. I'll try it for another couple days and see how I feel...

Scosche IPNRFC Wireless Car RF Remote for iPod Review

Scosche IPNRFC Wireless Car RF Remote for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the perfect iPod Touch accessory. It works great - controls volume, track forward/backward, shuffle, and playlist functions (I have not tried the playlist function). If you press and hold the track buttons, it fast forwards or reverses through the current track. Press and release changes tracks. You can remove the remote from the steering wheel holder and use it on your desk, a very nice feature. The iPod does not have to be unlocked for use. The iPod backlight comes on when a remote button is pressed, but goes out in about 8 seconds. It is truly a keep-eyes-on-the-road operation.
Contrary to another review, the unit functions with a charge cord connected and charging.
The receiver adapter gets its power from the iPod. The remote button unit is powered by two CR2025 coin cells. I opened it by sliding my fingernail between the two halves and and then going around the circumference, splitting it apart. It's quite tight, and can break your fingernail. There is no mention of batteries, neither in the manual nor on the Scosche website.
Pros:
Well thought out.
Intuitive operation.
Can be used anywhere.
Quality construction.

Cons:
Somewhat difficult to get remote holder really tight on the steering wheel.
After a prolonged idle (not playing), the iPod must be activated with its HOME button to 'wake up' remote operation. This is not the sleep delay mentioned in the manual, which requires you to hold the play/pause button.

No instructions on battery replacement.
Since I've only used these at most 3 feet apart, I cannot verify the 150 foot range spec.
Conclusion:
Highly recommended.

In Car MP3 iPOD FM transmitter for SD USB Pen drive w/Remote Review

In Car MP3 iPOD FM transmitter for SD USB Pen drive w/Remote
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
So close, yet so aggravatingly far away... When you have a 1GB or 2GB drive with hundreds of songs loaded, you may not want to hear them IN-THE-EXACT-SAME-ORDER-OVER-AND-OVER-AND-OVER again... You have to use the remote or try not to hit a guardrail while you struggle to depress the little button on the unit... and usually hit the frequency changer instead, making your same-ole music screechy with radio static. Now you know why I'm in an obvious panic when you pass me on the road! And these are not in track name order, they're in the order in which you ADDED THEM TO YOUR CARD OR USB DRIVE! Ouch! It's nice that they made the buttons larger for us drivers (too bad car and mini-van manufacturers didn't anticipate us dinking with the lighter socket WHILE driving so they're not always convenient...), but they also made them dual-function. For example, holding the change frequency buttons for more than one second and the volume will change. Nice otherwise, plenty of frequencies (analog), limited remote. Too bad we can't enter in a song number and it plays from there... the remote simply duplicates the onboard buttons. No power pack to remember or charge or manage, use your SD cards or USB flash drives with ease... The display shows the song titles and info (please pull over first!). If you're looking for THE solution to auto MP3, this is only it if you like ORDER. If you want to mix it up a little, keep on looking!

Griffin TuneFlex AUX w/Dock Connector for iPod Review

Griffin TuneFlex AUX w/Dock Connector for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This product has been updated. Griffin has come out with the TuneFlex AUX 2 version. It is much better (see my review of it below)
TuneFlex AUX
-------------------
Plain and simple, don't bother with this product. It pales in comparison to the updated model. This model shifts around and isn't as clean looking as the new model. It also doesn't always charge my iPod Classic...which didn't charge properly for a lot of auto chargers (I tried about 5 different ones). Just skip this product and get the new version...it is worth the extra money. Read my review of the updated model below:TuneFlex AUX 2 Review:
-------------------
This is a good product, probably the best auto charging dock available (I've tried quite a few). I own an iPod Classic 80GB (and iPhone 3G) and it charges and plays them just fine. The product arm itself is strong and doesn't move a bit. The holding dock itself (comes with a variety of docks for all your iPods) allows you to rotate it. This does move. It's stiff at first, but once you break it in it will start twisting a bit on a large iPod. Nano's probably won't budge at all. It's not horrible, it probably rotates about 10 degrees in either direction when I take turns. It usually goes back though, so it isn't the end of the world.
I will say the holders themselves, while there are many to choose from, really don't have much support for the product. There is no backing to them at all (except one which doesn't appear to fit my iPod classic, iPhone, or nano). No worries though, the iPod still manages to stay in place without a problem (and they ride in a Pontiac G8).
Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. If it was solid as a rock, I would give it 5...but it's pretty close. Again, if you own a Nano, this thing probably won't budge at all. The iPod Classic will rotate a little, but not much. If you don't want it to move at all, I suggest getting a Belkin TuneDok (goes in a cup holder) or a vent clip model.

Virtual Reality Sound Labs Mod Pod Wireless 4 in 1 Power Inverter and FM Transmitter Review

Virtual Reality Sound Labs Mod Pod Wireless 4 in 1 Power Inverter and FM Transmitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the Swiss army knife of car entertainment. On first encounter it seemed too good to be true - a power inverter, an FM transmitter with 15 presets, and a USB charger (charge your iPod) - all for such a low price? Skeptical to the max, I bought one anyway. And to my surprise, it works well!
We recently completed a 10 day road trip where the unit was used to power our laptop for watching DVD's and send the audio to the car stereo via the FM transmitter. On a few long hauls the kids watched 4 movies in a row and the laptop kept going, no problem. The sound is FM quality, and the many MR presets allow you to avoid interference. The fan does make a sound, but you notice it only when the car is stopped. Also, the shape is rather funky and too top heavey for supporting itself when plugged directly into a cigarette lighter - I suggest getting a cigarette lighter extension cord and resting the VR3 unit on the floor.
Followup a month later: After the glowing review above, we went to plug in the unit for another weekend trip and ... nothing. The unit had died in its sleep. No power out, no FM signal, no display. We had the unit for just under two months but the warranty is only for 30 days so looks like we're out of luck. Was nice while it lasted, but it didn't last too long. In retrospect, I'd give it only two stars.

Griffin Technology TuneFlex AUX for iPod and iPod nano Review

Griffin Technology TuneFlex AUX for iPod and iPod nano
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review is for the new 2.0 version. It has the variable output control on the base, while the old version had a simple high-low switch. This is important because it allows for a precise adjustment of the output from the iPod.
What will the Tuneflex do for you? First, it is nice to have your iPod up in front where you can see and operate it. It provides for charging and the sound output comes from the bottom plug of the iPod, rather than the headphone output jack. This provides for better sound as the headphone output is designed for headphones only.
You do not want an fm transmitter. Those are horrid in all respects.
These features are of no use unless you have an accessible lighter (or power output) and an auxiliary input on the vehicle's sound system. These can be added by handy people or the local car stereo installer.
Some reviewers have complained that the Tuneflex is wobbly. The 2.0 is very solid, but the lighter plug itself is often loose. Mine is, but it still works ok and is not too annoying. I may go in and tighten it up or replace it with a sturdier output some time.
The Tuneflex fits tightly, so hold down the lighter when you pull out the unit. Lighters are not very strong.
Note that the product description informs you of which iPods fit. The Tuneflex comes with a variety of holders that snap on to the stalk and hold the selected iPod securely. If you keep your Tunflex installed, all you have to do is slide the iPod in and it is all connected.
Well, you ask, what about the iPhone? It is not on the supported products list. It so happens that the first generation iPhone will barely fit one of the adapters. Pretty tight, but you can do it. I doubt the new 3G phone will fit, but
When you do connect the phone, a dialogue box pops up to inform you that it is not a supported device, so do you want to continue. Push "yes" and all is well. It works perfectly.
Griffin, the maker of the Tuneflex, says Apple has not approved the device. Apple is famous for tightly controlling things and who knows what politics, licensing fees or what else may be involved here.
None of this applies if you use it as intended, with a supported iPod. You can keep your phone in your pocket and use it separately. On my car, the bluetooth works perfectly and turns the sound down on the auxiliary mode.
So, it works as it should, is handy and tidy, and the price is right. I recommend it if your vehicle has an auxiliary input and a well-placed lighter or power plug outlet.

Ipod Iphone Fm Transmitter Charger Holder Car Dock Kit Review

Ipod Iphone Fm Transmitter Charger Holder Car Dock Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When I first hooked this up to my iPod, it worked as expected...the first time. I used it for about 20 minutes. The second time, about 10 minutes into using it the FM transmitter seemed to stop transmitting. I made sure it was completely in the 12V outlet and all the connections were secure, and it was on the right FM frequency. Even without the iPod attached, there should be silence on the frequency on which it's transmitting, but it was just static. The charging part of it still works fine. The FM transmitter works off and on for apparently no reason. Even when it is transmitting, the cord that goes to the headphone jack is very spotty - you have to turn it around in the jack just right or you only get sound to one side of the car or there's a lot of static. My headphones work just fine, so it's not the jack on the iPod. When it's actually transmitting and everything is adjusted just right, it sounds great. I'd return it, but for $9 it's not even worth paying the return shipping. So, if you're looking for a charger, it works fine. If you're looking for an FM transmitter, I'd look elsewhere.

This is a horrible item. The unit transmits a high pitched hum while trying to charge and use the FM transmitter at the same time, no matter what frequency is selected. The arm portion doesn't hold the device in the place you put it.
The male to male stereo connector that is shown in the picture wasn't in the box, and the overall build quality is cheap.

Belkin Mobile Power Cord for iPod with Dock Connector (White) Review

Belkin Mobile Power Cord for iPod with Dock Connector (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is an extremely useful product for people who want to listen to their iPods in their car.
It beats having an FM transmitter if you connect a cassette adapter to the charger's audio jack, because then
1) Only 1 cable connects your iPod to the charger, and you get both power for the iPod and audio from the car speakers.
2) The iPod automatically goes into pause when your car (and its speakers) is turned off... something the FM transmitter cannot possibly do. This is perhaps the most underrated and undermentioned feature of the iPod and this charger. You no longer have to fiddle around with the iPod to stop it when you park your car.
