Sony DRBT160iK Bluetooth Stereo Headset with iPod Adapter (Black) Review

Sony DRBT160iK Bluetooth Stereo Headset with iPod Adapter (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I like to have my ipod playing when I do errands or workout at the gym but I hate the wires on my headphones always getting in the way and catching on things. Through friends and different stores I tried SEVERAL various wireless solutions like the Jaybird, the Motorola, the Toshiba and even another different model of Sony because I didn't want to buy something only to find the sound quality or bluetooth function was weak. Then while browsing Amazon I came across the Sony DRBT160iK. At first I thought the headset design with the behind-the-ear pods were strange looking compared to other models and I wanted no part of them... but having no friends who owned them and not finding them in any stores, I decided to buy from Amazon anyway since there were few reviews at the time that were very good ones.
Well I received them and flat out I am truly blown away. It's kinda nice when something you are hoping will work out actually exceeds your expectations. Without any question whatsoever this set-up is by far the very best sounding wireless bluetooth ipod headphones I've heard...period. I absolutely love these and what's funny is they sound better than another wired headphone I've had on my ipod. If anyone is on the fence about these and are looking for a review to help, Im giving you an honest and discerning opinion...if you can get around the funky (but fairly comfortable) design, these are worth every penny (currently around $114 on Amazon).
The sound quality for a lightweight portable bluetooth stereo headphone is simply excellent. Suprisingly so. The transmitter/receiver uses one of the latest advanced bluetooth versions known as Bluetooth ver 2.1 + EDR (extended data rate)... I have no idea why Amazon doesn't indicate this as a product feature , it makes a huge difference. Even very complex and sonically detailed parts of music are crisp and defined and play without being muddled or distorted. (I'm sure it helps that I buy most of my music from Itunes or Amazon so it's encoded well from the start). The bass response is suprisingly good and continues to catch my attention even after four months. The highs and midrange are on the spot with the same very good detail and sound quality. Last night I played the entire Dark Knight soundtrack while doing chores and the deep dark bass notes of these dramatic tracks came through with flying colors and even a hint of true stereo imaging. Love them!!
Other cool things:
-Transmitter fits securely and snugly into your ipod and is very low-profile, about the size of a quarter (don't lose it!!!) It draws a tiny amount of power from your ipod so you never need to charge the transmitter, only the heaphones with the supplied charger.
-There is a micro joystick at the end of one of the earpods and after a couple of tries is easy to master. With this tiny joystick you can skip tracks forward, backward, pause, volume up, volume down as well as scan forward and scan backward with just the touch of your finger without every needing to touch your ipod, wherever you have it stowed. You can literally put your ipod in your waistpack, purse, dufflebag, pocket...anywhere within 15-25 feet of where you are and the sound is still excellent.
-Like I said they look different but they are fairly comfortable, snug, sturdy and very lightweight. If you run or bounce around alot with exercise or chores they will not come off and disrupt you from your sound. These are earbud type of headphones so they go inside your ear and the advantage of that outside of the high sound quality is that it will take out all background sound (like the bad music they play at the gym or the people who keep yapping at the treadmill next to you). I tried a different Sony model that just sat "on" your ear and these could not even come close to muting out these annoyances with high quality sound. If you are going to use them while biking I highly suggest you keep the volume down so you can hear other sounds around you. Safety first.
-It takes about 1.5 hours to charge these from empty and this will last you about 5 realistic hours. I get about three or four 90 minute workouts in without charging usually.
- This model will also let you do phone calls with your bluetooth phone / Iphone that will interrupt if a call comes in while listening to music. I don't use my phone in this way and have not tried this feature or paired it to anything but my Ipod Nano 5G and Ipod Touch so I can't report on the phone feature, but it's there.
Reviews helped me find this model and my strong suggestion to you if you are shopping for high quality bluetooth wireless solutions with high quality sound for your ipod is to simply get over the unusual look of these and buy them. Don't waste your time like I did. I'm one of the fussy types for great sound quality and these simply please me tremendously.

Tuneflex Aux NANO2 Flex Cradle Charger with 3.5 Audio Cable Review

Tuneflex Aux NANO2 Flex Cradle Charger with 3.5 Audio Cable

I originally thought that this unit would charge my iPod, as well as mount it in my vehicle. When I received the unit, however, I found this not to be the case. On a more positive note, it does hold the iPod in a convenient location, and does have a 'pass-thru' port that allows a charger to be connected. The price I paid was ridiculously low, so I can't possibly complain.

Kensington 33384 QuickSeek FM Transmitter/Car Charger for iPod Review

Kensington 33384 QuickSeek FM Transmitter/Car Charger for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my second Kensington. Althought this model is "newer" than the other model I own (Kensington 33199 Digital FM Transmitter and Auto Charger for iPod (Black), if you compare them side by side, this newer model will make you go a little crazy - it really pales in comparison in terms of ease of use (I'm using it with a 30GB Ipod 5.5 Video).
The main flaw with this transmitter is that it just plain needs a lot of "tweaking" to get it to work. This means every time you power up your car and want to drive down the road while listening to your Ipod. Here's a literal comparison: OLDER MODEL (33199) - start car, wait 2 seconds for transmitter to kick in and override the FM frequency playing, hit "play" on the Ipod. THIS MODEL - start car, wait 6 seconds and I'm still hearing static as transmitter hasn't started operation, reach over and pick up Ipod, press buttens to cycle through the pre-saved frequencies to get to my last used frequency, still hear static, press the transmitter unit harder into the Ipod and press the cable into the unit itself to more firmly seat it, 2 seconds later the static goes away as the transmitter is now transmitting - this is 20 seconds after starting car, now I hit play and the Ipod starts working but the screen doesn't show what its playing, it just shows the main menu (explained below). If you weren't familiar with just how simple these things should be (model 33199), you might actually find this thing acceptable because it does a fair job as an actual transmitter, otherwise you would know that this current model is pretty much trash.
Also, the blocky interface plugs into the docking section, which makes the Ipod harder to handle and makes the whole unit feel more fragile (that is, it's easy to torque the block, which is only connected with a docking interface, which makes me worried about damaging either the transmitter or the Ipod at the connection point).
Worse, the device "controls" the Ipod, using the Ipod screen to read off frequencies. This control doesn't always "release" the Ipod to allow it to go back to the audio control screen, which means that if you want to fast forward or otherwise interact with the song, then you'll have to go through the menus and find the exact song / podcast you are currently listening to and click on it again to bring up the right screen (I kid you not).
Finally, as mentioned above, the last-used frequency doesn't always activate when the unit is powered off then back on, you have to manually switch back to it, amazingly ridiculous. To boot, the "clear frequency scanner" is really gimmicky, providing only marginally good frequency choices, ones that prove poor after driving a little further down the road.
None of these problems with the other unit I mentioned. My recommendation is that you STAY AWAY from this model and go with the Model 33199, much easier to use, flawless execution and a fairly strong transmitter.

Spend more time enjoying your favorite iPod tunes and less time searching for a high-quality audio signal with the Kensington QuickSeek FM transmitter/car charger. Like other FM transmitters, the unit broadcasts your iPod's music through your vehicle's stereo speakers, so you can groove to your full digital music collection without buying an expensive iPod-compatible car stereo. But unlike with competing models, you don't have to fiddle with the transmitter for several minutes to find a static-free station. Instead, the unit's QuickSeek technology locates the best FM signal in mere seconds, making tuning easier than ever. All you have to do is connect the transmitter to your iPod's dock connector, plug the car charger into your vehicle's 12-volt power outlet, and you're set.
The QuickSeek boasts Kensington's ClearFM technology, which delivers richer lows, crisper highs, and superior stereo separation with a "concert hall" effect--all through your regular stereo speakers. The ClearFM circuitry also includes the company's patented filtering technology, which results in the lowest harmonic distortion and signal-to-noise ratios of any FM transmitter on the market today--up to three times clearer than Kensington's competitors. Handiest of all, the detachable car charger isn't for iPods only, as it also works with other USB-powered devices, such as mobile or smartphones, PDAs, and more.
Other details include three programmable preset buttons for storing FM stations, an ultra-bright display, and a detachable spacer to ensure a custom fit with iPod models in a case. The QuickSeek FM transmitter is backed by a two-year warranty.

I bought the FM Transmitter and it did not work with my iPod Touch - no matter what station I had it set to. I went to the manufacturers website and clicked on support and it said 'Please email us before calling as this information is essential to us in order for us to give you the service you deserve.' so I sent them an e-mail with the model #, and 3 weeks later they sent me an e-mail back with instructions on how to reformat an mp3 player?!

Zoom Bluetooth Transmitter for iPod (White) Review

Zoom Bluetooth Transmitter for iPod (White)

Small and lightweight--I've been pairing it with Sony DR-BT50 and Moto S9 headphones on my 80gb ipod without any problems. The range is extraordinary--40 or more feet. Added bonus are the LCD's on it double as volume controls--much easier to use than the ones on the headphones. My best estimate on battery drain is about 35% after 3-4 hours of continuous play. Very nice functional design and quality for this price.

Motorola D650 Bluetooth Stereo Headset Adapter for iPod Review

Motorola D650 Bluetooth Stereo Headset Adapter for iPod

I have a pair of Motorola bluetooth headphones that I use with my 4th gen iPod Nano and that combination is just OK; I suffer lots of dropouts if the units don't have a clear line of sight, so I'm forced to have the iPod in an armband high up on my arm. This adaptor doesn't work with my 5th gen Nano at all; it doesn't turn off the built in speaker nor does it connect with my headphones. I have seen reviews for the Scosche TuneStream unit, but that doesn't work for 5th gen iPods either.

This gadget works well (at least better than other devices I tried) but have some issues:
1- No play buttons, so you have to actually play and manage your songs from the iPhone (Actually this is the only feature i'm missing from Griffin).
2- Sometimes a message pops up when you connect your iPhone that this accessory is not supported, it will go away if you just unplugged and replugged the iPhone.
3- If you turn the car off for a while, you will get a totally new frequency every time you start the car.

Hoped this would be all it claims to be. First impression when I got the package - had clearly been a returned product without any instructions, damaged packaging, and areas of writing blacked out with marker. Item clearly works to charge my ipod touch but only has 4 frequencies on the side to select and they are all extremely close together - it does NOT transmit on all frequencies as the ad claims. Cheap plastic but might hold up for light use. Will be returning this item.

Kensington 33169 Digital FM Radio and Transmitter for iPods Review

Kensington 33169 Digital FM Radio and Transmitter for iPods
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This unit does both: receives FM as a radio, and transmits FM to your radio. Just purchased this yesterday, so I don't have good numbers on how long it takes to drain the iPod's battery. I do know that you can get a solid 4 hours at least. This unit does a fantastic job of transmitting my iPod selections to my FM stereo radio. I can take the iPod 30 metres away, around the house, and the music continues without interruption. I've heard that some of the FM transmitter systems didn't have much of a range, and was pleasantly surprised to find that this one is quite good.
For FM reception - you stick your headphones into the unit itself, rather than into the iPod's headphone jack - so I presume that it is just using the iPod as a power source rather than anything particularly intelligent.
Not needing to buy two different units seems like a good idea to me.
The one downside is that there is no way to charge the iPod while the Kensington unit is connected, whereas some of the FM transmitter-only systems can be plugged into car power supplies.

You've never heard sound this great from an FM transmitter this small before. What's more, The Kensington 33169 Digital FM Radio and Transmitter for iPods not only plays your iPod wirelessly through any FM stereo--including a car stereo, home stereo, or clock radio--so you can listen to your favorite songs without headphones, it also lets you listen to your favorite FM radio stations through your iPod as well.
This unique 2-in-1 transmitter and radio includes such features as ClearFM circuitry for richer lows, crisper highs, and better stereo separation, and a digital display on the tuner that lets you select any available FM frequency for either reception or transmission. This unit's backlit digital display is easy to read without having to strain your eyes, while its four programmable buttons let you lock in your favorite stations with pre-sets. Best of all, the unit requires no cables, wires, or software, so playing your favorite iPod tunes on your home or car stereo, and listening to your favorite radio stations with your iPod is as easy as 1-2-3.
Compatible with any iPod with a dock connector--including the iPod nano 1G, iPod nano 2G, iPod mini, iPod 3G, iPod 4G (Click Wheel), iPod color, and iPod 5G/5.5G Video--the Kensington digital FM radio and transmitter is backed by Kensington's 1-year warranty.

The unit is self works flawlessly without fail, the failure lies in the cigarette lighter adapter. It is very cheap, if you a buy a new better quality cable/adapter it will work much better. As for the signal quality and sound quality it does what it is supposed to without sounding bad.

The SF 121 does what it's supposed to, just not very well. The range is very limitted. The sound quality is acceptable, but there is often significant interference. If you're willing to settle for that, fine, but there seem to be much better products out there.

5 in 1 FM Transmitter Car Kit for iPod Review

5 in 1 FM Transmitter Car Kit for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I don't have an I-pod, but I do have a Sony MP3 player, and there is a stereo input jack on this that works great with my little player. There is also a USB charger plug on the bottom that allows me to plug my MP3 player in and keep it charged for long road trips.
Since this is based on FM broadcasting technology, it stands to reason that you will have to adjust it as you move across the country. I usually turn this unit off first, and then find a frequency on my radio that has a couple of empty slots on either side of it to ensure the least amount of interference. Once I have found a frequency, I just power the unit back up and adjust it to that frequency. Works like a charm.
My only wish with this product is that it would power itself back on everytime I start my car, and that it would come in black instead of white. It really stands out when you look in the window.

Newer Technology Cassette Adapter - Play your iPod/iPhone,MP3 tunes, etc. through your car stereo Review

Newer Technology Cassette Adapter - Play your iPod/iPhone,MP3 tunes, etc. through your car stereo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you find yourself without an AUX adapter in your car, and you have a cassette player, this is about as good as it gets. It is almost silent inside the player, and the transmitter is designed to make direct contact with the reader head, so you will get the best sound quality possible. The cord is designed to exit any of the top corners, and has flexible opening, so it lowers nicely into car cassette decks. It's rare to see as much thought put into something as simple as a cassette adapter, but if you find yourself needing to use one, you will be extremely happy that this one is available. Heck, at $4.99 + shipping, I might just get a couple more to keep as backup.
