Griffin Navigate Inline Remote Controller and FM Radio for iPhone and iPod Review

Griffin Navigate Inline Remote Controller and FM Radio for iPhone and iPod

I recently purchased a new iPod Touch 4G. I use it in the car, at the gym, or traveling by airplane a lot and I often found it annoying that the display would shut off and I had to fumble with the device to see what was playing or advance songs or change volume. With the touch screen you really have to look at the ipod to see what you are doing. This remote solves that with the built in display. Now I can take a quick glance at the remote to see the song name and artist, and change tracks, mode, or volume, just by feel (and keep my eyes on the road). The remote has a clip so I can attach it to my shirt when working out.
I don't notice any change in sound quality or battery life (see tip below).
A tip I have learned. When I first got the Navigate I noticed that I would shut off the ipod and remote but later I would see that both would mysteriously turn on. Sometimes 20 minutes later, sometimes 2 hrs later. If I left the remote plugging all night it would kill my battery, Griffin tech support didn't have a solution so I thought I was going to have to unplug it every time I turned off my ipod or risk running the battery down. Then I finally realized that it was the ipod Wi-Fi that was the culprit. When I turned on "airplane mode", then problem went away. This was no problem in the long run, because I don't need wi-fi when I am driving or an an airplane.
I highly recommend this product.

DLO Tune Stick Review

DLO Tune Stick
Average Reviews:

This unit is cleverly designed, and functions adequately...some of the time. Interference from power lines and radio signal relays regularly disrupt "broadcasts" from one's iPod to the FM station selected. As one travels, other stations can routinely be heard, replacing the programming on one's iPod. It's pretty annoying, and frequently renders the listening experience genuinely unpleasant.

Maxell P-21 Portable iPod Remote Control Review

Maxell P-21 Portable iPod Remote Control
Average Reviews:

I got this for $13 shipped. It is very plasticy (if thats a word) in its feel. The clip on covers give it a bit of color, but are really unnecessary. The remote itself also unclips from it handle, where the lanyard is stored. It comes with various straps that I haven't tried yet. The CR2032 battery is NOT included.
Most important, it actually works! The reciever plugs into the bottom of my nano 3rd gen, and I can plug in accessories through the resiever because it has a passthrough design. So I can charge it or just power it as well. The reciever has a headphone jack in the side. The dock connector is a little loose in the ipod slot. I plugged it into my sound system, and I can control the I-Pod from another room, or even outside in my florida room. Because of the way the volumn works, I can turn up the stereo and use the Ipod volumn to control the sound level. The farthest away I have gotten is approx 30FT, but my battery is also old as well.
My main reason for the purchase was to control my Ipod from outside my pop up camper. Stereo on the inside and speakers on the outside. It is perfect for this purpose, but also works good for my home with a similar situation.
My wife has a nano 1st gen, and my son has a nano 2nd gen. It controls both with no issues.
Over all, I am very very pleased with this unit and would recommend it as long as the price was low.

Enjoy full control of all "dockable" iPods with this compact Maxell RF remotecontrol. The diminutive device offers a host of handy controls, including buttons for skipforward and backward, play/pause, and volume up/down. To connect the control, simplyattach the pass-through 30-pin connector to your iPod's dock and you're set. The pass- through design lets you connect other accessories--such as a charging dock or synccable--to the iPod without disconnecting the control, a handy feature for iPodmultitasking. And thanks to the receiver's pass-through headphone jack, users can alsoeasily connect headphones, portable speakers, or stereo systems. As a bonus, the remotecomes with several portable extras, including an armband/steering wheel strap forworking out, a lanyard with a safety release clasp, four interchangeable color plates, anda portable storage compartment. All together, the accessories not only deliver fullwireless freedom and control, but also much better iPod mobility. The remote requires asingle lithium coin-cell battery (not included) to operate and is compatible with the iPod3G, iPod 4G, iPod photo, iPod video, iPod nano, and iPod mini. It's also backed by a 90- day warranty.

Scosche IPNRFC Wireless Car RF Remote for iPod Review

Scosche IPNRFC Wireless Car RF Remote for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the perfect iPod Touch accessory. It works great - controls volume, track forward/backward, shuffle, and playlist functions (I have not tried the playlist function). If you press and hold the track buttons, it fast forwards or reverses through the current track. Press and release changes tracks. You can remove the remote from the steering wheel holder and use it on your desk, a very nice feature. The iPod does not have to be unlocked for use. The iPod backlight comes on when a remote button is pressed, but goes out in about 8 seconds. It is truly a keep-eyes-on-the-road operation.
Contrary to another review, the unit functions with a charge cord connected and charging.
The receiver adapter gets its power from the iPod. The remote button unit is powered by two CR2025 coin cells. I opened it by sliding my fingernail between the two halves and and then going around the circumference, splitting it apart. It's quite tight, and can break your fingernail. There is no mention of batteries, neither in the manual nor on the Scosche website.
Pros:
Well thought out.
Intuitive operation.
Can be used anywhere.
Quality construction.

Cons:
Somewhat difficult to get remote holder really tight on the steering wheel.
After a prolonged idle (not playing), the iPod must be activated with its HOME button to 'wake up' remote operation. This is not the sleep delay mentioned in the manual, which requires you to hold the play/pause button.

No instructions on battery replacement.
Since I've only used these at most 3 feet apart, I cannot verify the 150 foot range spec.
Conclusion:
Highly recommended.

Griffin Technology Auxiliary Audio Cable with Inline Remote Control Review

Griffin Technology Auxiliary Audio Cable with Inline Remote Control
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had bought this remote to use it to control my iPhone.
I need both to control the iPod and the iPhone (using double clicks, triple clicks, hold etc...).
This remote is of pretty good quality and very light. It feels a bit cheap on the button side, but the large buttons make it useable even with gloves.
The big minuses though are that there is no volume control, just play/pause, next and previous.
It's a total deal breaker for me.
And secondly, it is not compatible with double/triple clicks and hold. So you can't shuffle or fast forward in tracks and you can't trigger voice command. Another deal breaker for an iPhone.

Monster iEZClick Remote Control for iPod (Black) Review

Monster iEZClick Remote Control for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have never reviewed a product on Amazon before, but after using this product for just one day, I felt compelled to warn potential buyers about its fatal flaws. The idea behind this product is great, but it works so erratically that it simply renders it not only unusable, but borderline dangerous. I took mine skiing today. Tomorrow I'm returning it.
The major problem with the device is that the iPod does not respond to the commands from the remote reliably. Most of the time you have to press the skip track or play/pause button repeatedly for the iPod to acknowledge the command. I'm talking like upwards of 10 times from a foot away.
Perhaps the worse manifestation of the aforementioned reliability bug is the volume issue. Many other reviewers have touched on this topic, and I am here to say it is as bad as they declare. When the iPod receives the volume "up" or "down" command, often times it shoots the volume to maximum. Good luck getting it lowered quickly before your eardrums burst, especially if like me, you are wearing earphones under a helmet or ski mask and cannot quickly pull them out. Usually what happens next is the volume shoots all the way down to mute (if it ever responds). My ears are literally still ringing from this happening twice on the slopes today. Wow, great product.
Finally, the little connector that plugs into the iPod and acts as a receiver unit has a tendency to come partly loose. This appears to be happening from tension on the headphone plug being exerted onto the receiver unit. I use Shure E2c headphones with a 3rd Gen Nano, and the jack for the headphones on the Nano is so close to the dock connector (and subsequently the receiver unit), that if the plug of the headphones twists at all (as it may do if it's in your pocket), it nudges the receiver unit out of the iPod. This may or may not account for the iEZClick's extremely erratic behavior, as I did experience the erratic behavior while the receiver unit WAS still fully plugged into the iPod.
So to sum everything up, this device does not work as advertised, doesn't reliably respond to commands, comes apart in your pocket and has a tendency to shoot dangerously high decibels into your ears.

I have owned a few FM transmitters through the years. This is one of the poorer ones I have used. Signal is quite weak. Also the charging system does work, but your iPhone 3G will quickly point out to you that this is not a standard accessory. I'm looking for a new FM transmitter and charger now.
