Philips SHP2500/37 Full Size Headphone with Volume Control Review

Philips SHP2500/37 Full Size Headphone with Volume Control
Average Reviews:

I owned/used/abused the previous model for more than 6 years and man did it take a beating. It worked flawlessly until the little volume controller broke open and one of the wires broke off. I decided not to bother trying to fix it so i found this set and purchased it. Aside from looking cool and good price, they looked even sturdier than the last model headphones (including the volume controller). They fit comfortably, cover your ears completely and are not too tight. Good, full, clean sound (better if you can tweak it), and very loud. I Use them primarily for games, as you can hear the smallest of sounds. Good for watching TV privately if you really need to (although the cord gets in the way). Owned them for 1-1/2 years so far and not a scratch. For the price its a must have.

Sony BDVE300 5.1-Channel High-Definition Blu-ray Disc Player/DVD Disc Home theater System (Black) Review

Sony BDVE300 5.1-Channel High-Definition Blu-ray Disc Player/DVD Disc Home theater System (Black)
Average Reviews:

I bought the BDVE300 to go with a Sony 52Z5100 HDTV that I also bought from Amazon. I bought it mainly because I wanted to match the two items for both esthetic and practical reasons. The black speakers match the TV perfectly. I can also control both with one controller and easily run the TV sound through the HTS.
I am not an audiophile. So I didn't try to compare technical specs. This review is strictly subjective (in part to counter the one above) and is based on what I have heard while using the system with the TV.
The room in which the TV is located in is a 20 X 20 den/family room with a connecting dining area and kitchen. The entire area is open. It has wooden floors with a single oval area rug in front of the fireplace and TV.
I found the sound to be exceptionally clear and clean, without distortion or unevenness. I can tell a definite difference between the TV speakers and the BDV300 speakers. The BDV300 sound seems more spacious. It fills the room without blowing you away. The sound has more fullness to it than the TV speakers.
I have not tried it at full volume. I have never felt the need to do so. I have watched two musical DVDs, a Mary Chapin Carpenter concert and the 10th anniversary recording of Les Miserables. In both cases the music sounded beautiful and clear. You could hear all of nuances of the voices and the words of the songs were distinct and clear.
If you want strong bass that shakes the room, I am not sure this is the system for you. The bass is there but it is blended in with the other sounds. I am sure I can adjust it for greater effect. However, I am currently running the system at default values.
As for the lack of an S-air wireless cartridge, as mentioned by the reviewer above. It is true you have to buy it separately. However, everything I read about the system stated this plainly up front. If you need this feature it is available as an option. In researching this system I found this individual posted the same opinion on every web site he could find. I don't think his opinion was a fair assessment of the system's capabilities.
I found the set up to be rather easy. The instructions show various options on installing it alone with the TV or with a cable/SAT box or with an external DVD, etc. With the external mic it took about one minute to calibrate and maybe 15 mins. to connect the wires.

Be aware that Sony uses a proprietary plug on the DVD/Radio/Amp end of the system. The speaker end is a simple pinch type terminal. There is a FM & AM receiver as part of the system. I have not tried them yet. The DVD/CD/Blue ray player worked fine.
The bottom line is: The BDVE300 does everything Sony says it does. If you are looking for something to enhance your TV experience and play CDs with good clear sound, this system will do it well. For the price, I think it is an excellent value. I found no "gotchas" or "I can't believe they did this". So I gave it a rating of 5. I am very pleased with my purchase.
John

Samson AirLine 77 UHF TD Wireless Guitar System with AG1 Transmitter, Channel N1 Review

Samson AirLine 77 UHF TD Wireless Guitar System with AG1 Transmitter, Channel N1
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have used this transmitter on my electric violin for over a year and am so happy I bought it. I thought I would like the freedom of being wireless but now that I'm used to it could never see myself going back to using a cord. It's like thinking about using a corded landline telephone.
The sound quality is very good. I even use it in the studio to produce albums. You can hear samples on my website by listening to "Remember" or "Here and Now" which were both recorded using the wireless unit.
There is likely a slight increase in noise but I am willing to accept that to gain the freedom of movement that allows for clearer artistic expression. I'll never go back.
Peace to you,
Jimmy Free

Griffin TuneFlex AUX w/Dock Connector for iPod Review

Griffin TuneFlex AUX w/Dock Connector for iPod
Average Reviews:

This product has been updated. Griffin has come out with the TuneFlex AUX 2 version. It is much better (see my review of it below)
TuneFlex AUX
-------------------
Plain and simple, don't bother with this product. It pales in comparison to the updated model. This model shifts around and isn't as clean looking as the new model. It also doesn't always charge my iPod Classic...which didn't charge properly for a lot of auto chargers (I tried about 5 different ones). Just skip this product and get the new version...it is worth the extra money. Read my review of the updated model below:TuneFlex AUX 2 Review:
-------------------
This is a good product, probably the best auto charging dock available (I've tried quite a few). I own an iPod Classic 80GB (and iPhone 3G) and it charges and plays them just fine. The product arm itself is strong and doesn't move a bit. The holding dock itself (comes with a variety of docks for all your iPods) allows you to rotate it. This does move. It's stiff at first, but once you break it in it will start twisting a bit on a large iPod. Nano's probably won't budge at all. It's not horrible, it probably rotates about 10 degrees in either direction when I take turns. It usually goes back though, so it isn't the end of the world.
I will say the holders themselves, while there are many to choose from, really don't have much support for the product. There is no backing to them at all (except one which doesn't appear to fit my iPod classic, iPhone, or nano). No worries though, the iPod still manages to stay in place without a problem (and they ride in a Pontiac G8).
Overall, 4 out of 5 stars. If it was solid as a rock, I would give it 5...but it's pretty close. Again, if you own a Nano, this thing probably won't budge at all. The iPod Classic will rotate a little, but not much. If you don't want it to move at all, I suggest getting a Belkin TuneDok (goes in a cup holder) or a vent clip model.

Aurum Cables 3.5mm Car Stereo Auxiliary Male to Female (Aux-in) Input Cable (Ideal for Car Aux in / Ipod, Ipod Touch / Iphone 3g + 3gs / Mp3, Ipad Sansa) Braided 6ft 2m (Colors May Vary) Review

I purchased two of these 3.5mm stereo 6ft extension cables for use with a headset (w/ microphone) for my PC. The construction quality appears to be solid, and I get good audio quality with the cables, including with the microphone. Since I just received the cables, I cannot say how well they will hold up over time.
The cable insulation is a somewhat stiff PVC that retains its shape a little, but does offer greater durability than your average cable. Expect to spend a little time bending the cable into the shape you want, especially if it has been coiled up for a while. A braided cloth similar to that used on some of Logitech's newer mice would have been nicer.
The jackets on the connectors are much larger than a standard 3.5mm connector. I am unable to plug two of these into the adjacent microphone and headphone stereo mini-jacks on my PC's sound card. I was forced to use a lower quality extension cable for audio output that has a smaller connector, and was only able to use one of these for the mic input (clear mic input tends to be pickier about cable quality, in my experience). If you need to plug two of these in next to each other, make sure that the two jacks are at least 15mm (~5/8in) apart.
For use with a single jack with ample room on all sides, I would rate these cables 4-stars.

I am very pleased with this audio cable and am glad that I chose it over one of the cheaper ones I was considering. The cable is very thick and strong, yet still flexible. I am using it to connect my headphones to my workstation under my desk which was too far for my headphones to reach on their own.
I compared audio quality when using the cable vs. connecting headphones directly and found no noticeable difference, even when playing raw uncompressed audio.
The female end forms a tight, firm connection with anything I have tried connecting to it. The male end forms an equally good connection with any jack mounted on a flat surface. The width of the cable at the end can make a good connection difficult if the device you are connecting it to has a lip or ridge next to the jack (such as on my laptop). I don't imagine this would be a problem for most people since most jacks are on a smooth surfaces, but you should check the device you are planning to use this with before ordering.
Overall, I am very satisfied with this cable and would recommend it.
