Griffin Navigate Inline Remote Controller and FM Radio for iPhone and iPod Review

Griffin Navigate Inline Remote Controller and FM Radio for iPhone and iPod

I recently purchased a new iPod Touch 4G. I use it in the car, at the gym, or traveling by airplane a lot and I often found it annoying that the display would shut off and I had to fumble with the device to see what was playing or advance songs or change volume. With the touch screen you really have to look at the ipod to see what you are doing. This remote solves that with the built in display. Now I can take a quick glance at the remote to see the song name and artist, and change tracks, mode, or volume, just by feel (and keep my eyes on the road). The remote has a clip so I can attach it to my shirt when working out.
I don't notice any change in sound quality or battery life (see tip below).
A tip I have learned. When I first got the Navigate I noticed that I would shut off the ipod and remote but later I would see that both would mysteriously turn on. Sometimes 20 minutes later, sometimes 2 hrs later. If I left the remote plugging all night it would kill my battery, Griffin tech support didn't have a solution so I thought I was going to have to unplug it every time I turned off my ipod or risk running the battery down. Then I finally realized that it was the ipod Wi-Fi that was the culprit. When I turned on "airplane mode", then problem went away. This was no problem in the long run, because I don't need wi-fi when I am driving or an an airplane.
I highly recommend this product.

DLO TransDock Micro FM Transmitter for iPod (Black) Review

DLO TransDock Micro FM Transmitter for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

I purchased the DLO TransDock Micro in order to be able to listen to my 60 GB Video Ipod as I drive around in my vehicle. After using this device for about a month now, I am extremely pleased with its performance. The audio coming through my vehicle's radio using this device with my Ipod is outstanding, with no hiss or other interferences. I prefer this device over other FM transmitters/chargers because it allows you to place your Ipod just about anywhere in your vehicle where it is convenient, due to the long cord on the device. The use of the cord on this device, as compared to other FM transmitters which require you to place your Ipod in/on the device, also allows me to keep the protective case on my Ipod at all times. The DLO TransDock Micro is a great addition to any compatible Ipod.

Griffin iFM (Dock Connector) / FM Radio and Wired Remote Control for iPod Review

Griffin iFM vs. Apple Radio Remote
iFM Pros:
++ arrangement of buttons makes operation by touch a cinch
+ (cosmetic) available in black (only)
iFM Cons:
- Lowest volume setting is still a little too loud for certain circumstances/environments
- clip is somewhat flimsy
Radio Remote Pros:
++ iPod integration is great
+ volume can be adjusted in much finer detail compared to iFM (64 vs. 16 levels)
+ clip appears more sturdy and usable
+ includes a set of Apple earbuds which a shorter cord
Radio Remote Cons:
- arrangement of buttons makes operation by touch not as convenient as iFM
- (cosmetic) available in white (only)
Both seem about equal as far as FM radio performance is concerned.
While the Apple Radio Remote seems like the better of the two, I use the iFM (with the shorter Apple earbuds) when skiing because the button layout is much easier to use on the slopes while wearing gloves.

Digital Lifestyle Outfitters TransDock Marine Dock for iPod (Black) Review

Digital Lifestyle Outfitters TransDock Marine Dock for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I didn't buy mine from Amazon. I got it from woot.com, where it was only 9.99. I'd read soe reviews that criticized the audio quality, but that didn't bother me. I use mine primarily for spoken-word recordings like audiobooks and podcasts, not classical music. And when it works, the audio quality has been adequate to my needs.
But my first unit failed just 58 days after I bought it. Philips sent me a new one. Today, seven months later, that one failed, too.
(The unit does have a fuse, but I checked, and it's intact.)
Mine has been treated quite gently--I almost never touched it at all, except to plug and unplug my iPod. This is supposed to be a "marine" model for use on a boat, but I just use it in my car.
I will say that Philips service was good--after I faxed them my receipt, they sent a new model without requiring me to return the old one.
But given that I've now had to fail in such a short period of time, I wish I'd spent more money and just bought a better model.
Tomorrow I'll call Philips, and (I hope) arrange for them to send me a new one. But I'll also start shopping for a different model that's not so fragile.

Griffin Navigate In-Line Controller for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

Griffin Navigate In-Line Controller for iPod and iPhone (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received this product an hour ago and I'm already in love with it. I have an iPod touch 1st generation and I was concerned that it wouldn't work since I purchased another controller that did not work with it.
I'm happy to report that this product has exceeded my expectations. It lets me have full access to the songs on my iPod without having to open and unlock it, and it also lets me select playlists, artists, songs and albums with simple buttons that are self-explanatory. It also lets you control volume without having to chance the iPod volume at all.
Then you just push the mode button and you get the FM transmitter. It gets most of the main stations, though there were a few I couldn't get, but the strong ones come in clear with only a little static when the signal cuts out like when I go into a closet for something. It has four presets that you can change and easily switch between your favorite stations. My favorite feature is that it displays what song you're listening to on the radio, with the title and the artist, along with the radio station you're listening to (by name, KIIS-FM, not just 102.7, though it lists that, too).
Another thing I was concerned about was it draining the battery on my iPod, but it doesn't drain it any quicker than it would to play regular music straight from my iPod touch. I've been playing the radio for an hour now and using all the buttons and the battery is still 100% full.
This is a quality product which exceeds my expectations and is reasonably priced. I would recommend this product to anyone with an iPod touch or an iPhone. Already I don't know what I did without it.

Griffin iFM Radio Receiver for iPhone and iPod Review

Griffin iFM Radio Receiver for iPhone and iPod

this product is even better than i thought! from the description it doesn't say that you can tune to specific stations (not just a list of ones that the device thinks you want to hear) i just hoped for the best when i ordered it. this means that i can use it at the gym to tune to the tvs and hear the sound. as far as i know this is the only product you can connect to an iphone/pod and do this. it does not have the iphone 4 listed as a compatible device but it works with mine. i highly recommend this product.

Griffin 4045-TRPAUTOS iTrip Auto FM Transmitter with SmartScan for iPod (0.5 Amps Rating) Review

Griffin 4045-TRPAUTOS iTrip Auto FM Transmitter with SmartScan for iPod (0.5 Amps Rating)
Average Reviews:

On my quest to find a FM Transmitter, I bought a different itrip from Griffin, but it did not charge my ipod nano 4th Gen. So I called Grifin and they told me that in order to charge my ipod nano 4th Gen that it needs to be an itrip with Smart Scan technology. So i returned it and bought this one, and i'm very happy with it.
1. This unit charges our ipod nano 4th Gen no problem. The ring of light on the cigarette lighter plug lights up red when initially connected denoting power to FM transmitter, then amber once the ipod is connected (charging), and then it turns green when the ipod is fully charged.
2. I have a sealed radio in my car so therefore don't have an audio input unfortunatley (2005 Volvo s40 2.4i) and so FM Transmitters are a way of life for me. Your not going to get the perfect sound quality from these like you would with a direct input, so check to see if you got an aux input in your car first and then just buy a charger and a double male head phone wire. I have a Sirius Radio has an FM Transmitter so i'm use to dealing with changing frequencys every so often. I live in NJ and am in NYC and Long Island a lot. My car can tune to 87.9 which I use for the sirius radio almost everywhere, but sometimes while in NY I use 93.3 (pretty high on the frequency list, but for some reason it's clear).
3. Check to make sure your car can go into 87.9 range first, these channels are hardly ever used by radio stations, then switch this grifin itrip autoscan to international frequencies just press function, then press AND HOLD mode for roughly ten secons until a new menu appears. It'll give you US, EU, and JP choices above each of the three buttons on the itrip. I picked JP (for japan) which enables all the normal US frequencies plus the lower range, lower then my car can go, my car only goes to 87.3 or something. A funny thing is that when i tune my car and itrip to 87.9 i get static, but if i keep the itrip at 87.9 and tune my car to 87.8 it comes in perfectly clear. It doesn't do that in my wife's car, 87.9 is 87.9. Just set one of your car radio presets to that and your good to go!
4. I took someone else recomendation to adjust the ipods equalizer to "Acoustic" and that definetly sounds better.
5. Long story short, I like this product, I got it for a heck of a lot cheaper then any FM transmitter at the apple store. One downfall which people do mention is that it is a tad bit hard to read the display of the itrip when you got a glare, but you can set your own presets on the itrip. Autoscan function is stupid, but apparently this is the model that'll charge the ipod nano 4th gen. Scan the radio yourself for static/ or free channels and then tune the itrip to those.
