Sennheiser SET900 Wireless Assistive TV Listening System Review

Sennheiser SET900 Wireless Assistive TV Listening System
Average Reviews:

The product appears to be well-made and of good quality materials, and it does amplify the sound so that with my hearing deficiency I can hear and understand dialogue on the TV without blasting others out of the room. However, the sound is tinny and you have to be sitting up fairly straight in order for the microphone on the earpiece to pcik up the sound. This devise doesn't work when you are stretched out and the microphone is not aimed at the sound source. I thought this was a transmitter that relayed the sound, but it is just a powerful microphone. The earpieces are OK, but get uncomfortable after extended use. Also, be prepared for the devise to pick up a distracting "scuffing" sound as it rubs against your clothing when you move slightly. While far from ideal, I would purchase it again, since it allows for comfortable sound levels for everyone when persons with normal hearing are watching TV with me.

TV Ears 10041 Original System (Black) Review

TV Ears 10041 Original System (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Television shows (especially older ones), too often aren't captioned. This is also true with current DVD releases, even from the big studios: no captions or subtitles. There's a law that requires closed captioning on newly released media, but studios sometimes ignore it. As I'm hearing impaired and rely heavily on closed captioning, this is particularly frustrating.
I have tried several headsets over the years with varying degrees of success. What's unfortunate is that most headsets aren't designed for the hearing impaired. They're designed for people who want to listen to music as they roam around the house. This means that the headsets aren't optimized for voice enhancement, and instead deliver quite a bit of bass. Bass tones don't improve speech comprehension, they lessen it.
That's where TV Ears comes in. Yes, the name is a bit silly, but this headset really works. The first time I used them I had the silliest smile on my face, because for the very first time I understood what was being said *perfectly*. English accents - long a bane of my TV experience, especially as I love British humor - were no longer a problem. The sound quality is magnificent, and the speech enhancement that the product brags about is spot-on. You can adjust the tone of the sound being delivered to your ears, so you can get just the right amount of bass/treble to give you, essentially, a custom-fit headset.
There's an added bonus.
TV Ears says that most theaters use the same technology that they do. I wasn't sure I believed that, so continued to use the (most often) old and sometimes dysfunctional headsets that theaters provide that don't allow for adjusting the tone to improve speech comprehension. Fed up with watching theater employees throw headsets into bins, and at least a 50/50 shot that when the movie started I was going to have to go back and exchange the headset, I tried my TV Ears in the theater. They worked. Instead of simply "booming" the sound, it was just like at home: The headsets enhanced what was being said. Whenever I go to the movies, I "never leave home without" them. They're more reliable than American Express.

Unisar TV Listener Stereo Review

Unisar TV Listener Stereo

I bought this product in January 2008 after reading the online reviews and I absolutely love it!! My husband is thrilled that I'm now watching TV with him again instead of retreating to the study to read, catch up on email, etc. I recently had my 84 yr old mother stay with us for a few weeks. She wears two hi-tech hearing aids that can't be very effective as she continues to blast the TV. When I placed the headphones on her head, her eyes lit up and she said, "Where did you get these? They're wonderful!" I'm now ordering her a set so that she too can enjoy TV.

TV Ears Original Plus 10045 Wireless Headset with Voice Enhancement Technology (Black) Review

TV Ears Original Plus 10045 Wireless Headset with Voice Enhancement Technology (Black)
Average Reviews:

I chose this model because it included "Voice Enhancement" and was recommended for use with Digital TVs.
A suitable cable is included for connection to the Digital TV's "Analog Audio Out Port". My TV's Analog Audio Out Port is "fixed" (independent from the volume control for the built in speakers) . This means that other person(s) can control the volume of the sound from the TV to their liking at the same time I am using TV Ears with its volume, tone and balance built in to adjust the sound to my needs... a perfect solution when people watching the same program have differing needs for sound adjustment. (Note: some digital TVs have a"variable" Analog Audio Out Port... in this case the volume control for the built in speakers would affect the volume of TV Ears... some TVs can switch between Fixed and Variable for the Analog Audio Out Port)
Set up was easy. Speech is indeed easier to understand. I find that wearing the headset is comfortable. The price is reasonable considering that it can deliver good quality sound to my ears and others can enjoy programs at the same time.
Since the TV's speakers can be muted while using TV Ears this would also be a way to watch late night TV while others in the household sleep.

TV Ears 2.3 MHZ Wireless Headset System with 10 Replacement Ear Tips Review

TV Ears 2.3 MHZ Wireless Headset System with 10 Replacement Ear Tips
Average Reviews:

Have had TV Ears for 7 months until they failed completely. I called their 800 number to see how the LIFETIME SERVICE GUARANTEE (listed boldly on their packaging) worked. Boy, was I disappointed to find that they only Warrant the device for 90-days (almost a Lifetime??). After the 90-days, you pay freight to ship it back to them AND they charge you between $35 and $59 to repair or replace the unit. Isn't that a coincidence - very close to the cost of buying a brand new unit. When I gently challenged their LIFETIME SERVICE GUARANTEE, the service rep got very snippy with me. It's a good product, but I have to downgrade it significantly for a very bad warranty policy. If you've experienced this problem, do a review and maybe they'll see the need to "get real" and support their Premium Priced product with a reasonable warranty.

TV Ears 10341 2.3 System Wireless Headset System (Blue) Review

This product is great while it works. The problem is that it did not work very long for me - less than 5 months. The little red LED's now fail to illuminate with the transmitter plugged in. Then, when I read the fine print, it says: 90-Day Warranty. I can't recall ever seeing any other consumer electronics product with less than a 1-year warranty. I then find that a local (hearing aid) dealer handles them. But, he says they don't handle the 2.3 Mhz version because there have been lots of problems with them. The 95 Mhz unit is problem free - and it carries a 1-Year warranty.

TV Ears 10380 Wireless Speaker System (Rich brown) Review

TV Ears 10380 Wireless Speaker System (Rich brown)

This worked terrific on my new Vizio LCD TV and we love it. Used the Audio out ports without a problem. It even works over 30 feet away. We found that the IR bounces well off the walls and when we use in a large space we face the back of the unit to the TV. We can lower the volume to nearly nothing on the TV and the speaker still works but when we mute the TV, the system mutes as well.
