Sony DMXWL1 BRAVIA Wireless HD Link Review

Sony DMXWL1 BRAVIA Wireless HD Link
Average Reviews:

This product works great...when it works. The problem is since this is on the bleeding edge of technology it has a number of glitches. The largest problem you are going to run into has nothing to do with signal interference, but rather signal compatibility. I hooked up an Xbox360, Cable Box, PS3, and DVD player/sound system and sent the video signal to my projector and used the Toslink out for the sound which went to my DVD player/sound system. For the Xbox360 I could get video to get sent to my projector, but the sound wouldn't transmit to my sound system. For my PS3, which is made by the same company, I could get sound just fine, but no video. The only thing that worked properly is playing a DVD, but that was because the sound was localized to the system already otherwise I'm sure I would have gotten video only out of it. Bottom line, for video games and tv there was no lag, no contouring, and no pixilation. I ended up returning this product and opting for a hard wire run and just putting cable covers on to hide the cords. My advice, wait for the second generation of this product, and if you are going to buy make sure there is a good return policy...that's why I bought it on Amazon.

5.8GHZ Wireless Catv Sender Review

5.8GHZ Wireless Catv Sender
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had great hopes for this product. I set it up as per the directions and at first I thought it was working, it transmitted the cable signal from one room to about twenty feet into the kitchen. But, the ability to change the channel via the "IR mouse" and remote just didn't work. Period. So, I switched the cable set up to feed the "raw" cable signal into the splitter so the transmitter got 25 channels. I was able to change channels and this would have been acceptable had it continued to function this way. But, now once the unit had been running a few minutes, the remote no could no longer function. At first I thought maybe it was a dead battery and so I replaced it but, once again, the remote stopped working. At this point, turned it off and re-read the instructions and went over the wiring setup. This was about 15 minutes after which I turned the units back on and it appeared to be functioning. I watched a little of the golf match and when a commercial came on, I tried to change the channel and nothing. Not one button the remote functioned. So, at this point I've decided to send the units back and try my luck with the manufacture.

Atlona AT-HDAIR PC to Computer Monitor/HDTV Wireless Adapter Review

Atlona AT-HDAIR PC to Computer Monitor/HDTV Wireless Adapter

This is the second time I bought this wireless TV adapter. This Atlona one was only $129.95 from Electronics-depot. It is the same gadget as one called Warpia except the plastic case is white. It worked great streaming laptop to TV downstairs so I bought it for my second TV upstairs. The video can be choppy if used with Atom based netbook, but it works flawlessly with the core 2 duo based HP notebook. It uses the processor horsepower for the video driver so the comp. must be strong enough to handle it. As long as it is used with the strong computer the video and audio will stream nicely to the TV. Even high def movies.

Wavecom Jr. RF-Link 2.4GHz Wireless Audio/Video Transmitter Review

Wavecom Jr. RF-Link 2.4GHz Wireless Audio/Video Transmitter
Average Reviews:

Box says 300ft range (clear line of site), penetrates floors and ceilings. OK, clearly I don't expect a 300ft range through floors and ceilings. However, for my use (trying to transmit a signal from one room to another, about 75ft, through 2 walls and a floor) this was totally useless. I FINALLY got it to connect, and play audio without unbearable static: by placing the transmitter and receiver directly across from eachother on opposite sides of a wall. It would not work if I asked it to transmit (only about 10ft) through the wall at an angle; it had to be perpendicular to the wall. Endless fiddling with antenna orientations couldn't give me a workable solution. When I opened the box, I was really happy: it included an infared link, and the receiver transcodes the composite video input into a coax signal that an old TV might use (has composite output too). That's all great- but are useless features if the signal can't reach the receiver. Going to see if I can return it for a refund :-(

brite-View HDelight (BV-1222) Uncompressed 1080p Beam-to-TV Kit Review

brite-View HDelight (BV-1222) Uncompressed 1080p Beam-to-TV Kit
Average Reviews:

I was thinking about getting a cheap net-top as a HTPC because I have no desire of building one, but then I came across brite-view's HDelight. Reading the specs, I realized I can just use my current laptop for the job. I have an Acer Aspire 5810TZ-4274 that I really like, and now that I can also use it as a HTPC is just awesome.
The HDelight comes in two pieces, besides all the other cables in the box - it contains a small transmitter (not even palm size) and a slightly larger receiver with the option of it being screwed to the back of the TV (screws are included but I didn't try them).
It comes with two HDMI cables - I like that. One short one for the transmitter + computer, and the other one for TV+ receiver.
The set up can not be easier - I literally just connected the small transmitter to my Acer laptop's HDMI port using the short HDMI cable and then to the Acer's USB port (there is a mini USB to USB cable in the package), and then I connected the receiver to the TV, gave it some juice from the power supply, waited for a few seconds while the transmitter's blue LED light blinks - and then I saw my computer's desktop on TV!
Played with Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, without any problems; great video and audio quality. Did not test Blu-ray because the Acer doesn't have a BD dirve. I was using the computer right in front of me when I'm in the living room, and the distance between the transmitter and receiver is about 10 ft apart.
BTW, the HDelight is using the same solution of Asus' wicast, but seriously, it costs $40 less!! The HDelight is a great deal.

IOGear Wireless USB Audio and Video Kit with Audio, VGA and Wireless USB Adapters GUWAVKIT (Grey) Review

IOGear Wireless USB Audio and Video Kit with Audio, VGA and Wireless USB Adapters GUWAVKIT (Grey)
Average Reviews:

I just moved from a house to an apartment and decided there should be a way to cancel cable and just watch Hulu on my 50" plasma for free. I researched online and found this product to have the highest customer rating, so I bought it. I spent an enlightening hour on the phone with their tech support, and here's some things you should know. My apartment is 740sq ft. My computer is located just around a corner and exactly 24 feet from my TV.
1st: the product WILL NOT WORK with Windows 7. They're working on the issue. Yeah, great.
2nd: when they say 30 foot max distance, they mean it and even that is stretching the truth.
3rd: when they don't say anything about REQUIRING a direct line of sight, they are omitting facts. I had to hold the USB piece in mid air with a direct line of sight to the TV and it still only had 2 orange bars (should have 5 green).
4th: other wireless devices WILL interfere with reception, even at different frequencies. The tech told me this. My wireless router was blamed for the choppy video coming across to the TV.
I even hooked it up to my netbook and placed it 12 feet from the TV-- video was still choppy. Bottom line, if you're looking to watch video from the internet on your TV wirelessly, you are ahead of your time. Maybe in a few years someone will figure it out. Iogear is not that someone. I returned for a refund, and Amazon was, as always, absolutely wonderful.

RF Link AVS-5813 5.8Ghz A/V Wireless Receiver Review

RF Link AVS-5813 5.8Ghz A/V Wireless Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought one of these units in March 2006 in response to my wife constantly changing room arrangements, and subsequently requiring that the TV work in an area that didn't have easy cable access. I looked at several units from other manufacturers, and actually bought one to try from Best Buy, which was a Leapfrog, I think. Testing that unit convinced me that the concept was sound, and I would have kept that unit except that it operated on 2.4 GHz, which caused interference every time the microwave was in use, or the telephone rang. My computer is hard wired into a network as I don't want to deal with the increased security requirements of wireless, and my phones work fine on 2.4 GHz, so I was looking for a solution, but with 5.8GHz.
I called RF-Link tech support, got all of my questions answered and placed the order through Amazon.
Product worked flawlessly for about six months and then crapped out. By crapping out, I mean that when unit was in an enclosed space where there was exessive heat buildup, the unit would stop working after about 10 minutes.
I contacted RF-Link tech support, and they promptly sent out a replacement unit, explaining that the motherboard had been completely redesigned, and therefore they sent me new units as well as new power supplies. The replacement units have worked flawlessly.
Although I was upset at having to go through the return/RMA process and the delay in using the product until thr replacement was received, everything is fine now. I would recommend this product to anyone who doesn't want the expense of paying to install cable outlets everywhere.
And for those who are concerned about 5.8 GHz interference, with phones, 6.0GHz phones are already available, so no future compatability issues there either.

brite-View Air SyncHD (BV-2322) Uncompressed 1080p Video/ Audio Wireless Transmission Kit Review

brite-View Air SyncHD (BV-2322) Uncompressed 1080p Video/ Audio Wireless Transmission Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just received the Air SynchHD yesterday so my experience is somewhat limited, but so far it is working great. I bought this to use to watch TV out by the pool on game day and to eliminate the long HDMI cable that I had been dragging back and forth each weekend and hanging out a window. So far I have tested it outside and the picture is as clear as it was when the HDTV was connected by HDMI directly to the cable box. My setup outside is definitely pushing the limits of the 33 foot NLOS so it took some time to find a placement of the receiver that would allow it to connect to the transmitter. But once connected, I let it run for about four hours and never lost the signal. While I bought this for game day outside I found that I can also use it during the weekdays when we are not outside to eliminate a second cable box in our exercise room. That setup puts the receiver about 20 feet from the transmitter and works perfectly as well. We are going to end up saving over $17 a month on our cable bill by eliminating two cable boxes (the one we had designated for outside and the one in the exercise room).
One possible option to consider: The Air SynchHD only has one HDMI-in port but I have hooked it up with a IO Gear HDMI smart switch and can use it with our cable box, PS3 and Blu-Ray player. The smart switch just sends the signal for whichever one is on to the transmitter. So, we can do movies, watch cable or play games outside (or in our exercise room). I definitely recommend this setup for anyone who wants to be able to use more than one HD device with the transmitter. It is much easier than disconnecting and reconnecting cables every time you want to switch from cable box to blu-ray, etc.. Oh, and the HDMI output feature is great as well to allow you to use this device with a cable box that is also connected to another HDTV. I run the output HDMI cable to our Onkyo receiver. The receiver has a multi-room feature that feeds our outdoor speakers so we can watch HDTV in full stereo sound outside.
If I experience any problems after further use I will update this review. But, I have to admit that so far this product has worked great.

RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR Repeater Review

RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR Repeater
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I'm a hi-tech gadget guy who is hard to please, but this far exceeded my expectations! I have it connected from a bedroom Directv Receiver(6" from a 2.4GHZ wireless PC lan) to a kitchen 15" Magnanox LCD TV sitting 12" below a micrwave oven without interference from microwave or lan! I'm even transmitting through 6 walls and a 5 gal. metal potato chip bucket and people walking in the kitchen without affecting the picture! I was getting a super picture w/o even having 1 antenna directly facing the other antenna. I thought I was going to have to run between floors for hours until everything was aligned perfectly - it only took 15 seconds because alignment is very forgiving. Picture quality is 5 star crystal clear with no lines, static, etc. All TV channels are 5 star and the HDTV stations blew me away even though I know its not sending true HDTV though the avs-5811.
What surprised me most was that I could use my bedroom Directv remote (down in the kitchen) to change channels (up in the bedroom) by simply pointing at the (kitchen)avs-5811 receiver. It sends the remote control signal upstairs to a "mouse" that you place in front of your TV receiver, cable box, etc, IR sensor. I had a spare remote so I keep 1 in kitchen and 1 in bedroom for convenience.
The owners manual iS POOR and doesn't tell you all this, but basically I can point the remote at the avs-5811 receiver in kitchen requesting a Directv channel change (or any other remote control function) in the upstairs bedroom. The avs-5811 transmitter in the bedroom receives the request and sends it through the "mouse" to the Directv Receiver which changes the channel as requested and the new channel video and sound is return to the kitchen! Pure magic and ingenious!
It is a very cost effective way, without losing picture quality and convenience, to avoid running cables and drill holes through my tiled walls or granite counters.

The average home entertainment system once consisted of a TV, stereo, and maybe a cable box. Now a modern system may also include a DVD player, satellite receiver, surround sound amplifier, digital video recorder, and an HD tuner, along with a PC designed to serve as a digital hub for certain audio/video functions. The RF Link AVS-5811 takes A/V technology to the next logical step by wirelessly transmitting audio and video signals from these components to any nearby TV, monitor, or stereo system, letting you enjoy vivid video and hi-fi stereo sound anywhere in the house. The A/V sender effectively lets you send signals to components located upstairs, several rooms away, or elsewhere without running bulky, space-consuming cables in the walls or under the floorboards. With the AVS-5811, viewers can watch simultaneous DVD or satellite programming on upstairs and downstairs TVs, or listen to their favorite tunes on stereos in three different rooms--all without wires. They can also use the sender to watch live video from a camcorder or CCD camera in a remote location, whether for security or entertainment purposes. Users who edit video or capture footage from TV programs on their computers will also find plenty to like about the device, as they can easily send the video from their Macs or PCs directly to a living room TV for viewing.
The AVS-5811 comes with a 5.8 GHz wireless transmitter and a receiver with four selectable channels. Unlike more common 2.4 GHz transmitters, the AVS-5811 doesn't share a band with Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, 801.11b wireless LAN networks, and microwave ovens, ensuring a sharp, interference-free video signal. The four channels are also a bonus, as it lets users set up multiple transmitters and receivers in the same area without cross-channel noisiness. In addition, the sender includes a built-in IR remote extender that controls components from a distance, so a user can mute the bedroom TV while relaxing on the living room sofa, for instance. The sender features an NTSC/PAL video system and transmits to distances as great as 400 feet without obstructions. It's also relatively compact at 6.5 by 4.13 by 10.5 inches (W x H x D).
What's in the Box Transmitter, receiver, two A/V RCA cables, two AC power adapters, IR mouse (remote extender), user's manual.

This product is the best consumer product available for this type of A/V transmission. Using the 5.8MHz band keeps it free of the dreaded microwave oven interference, as well as interference from most cordless telephones. The picture is good, though not perfect. But it's more than adequate for all but the largest TVs (great for a kitchen-sized screen). Be sure to experiment with all four channels to find the one that works best.
The only glitch I have found is with the power. Occasionally the A/V link would fail and I would have to restart either the sender or the receiver, depending on which one failed. Also, occasionally the channel selection would change spontaneously on one unit or the other, thus breaking the link. I solved both of these problems by installing small APC battery backups on both sender and receiver unit. I think electrical storms were at the root of both problems. Since then, I haven't had a single recurrence. I've used these units now for over two years.
We don't use the IR link because we have a different one (made by RCA) that works well and serves other devices not connected by the AVS-5811/5813.
