Sharper Image SR277 - Left / right channel speakers Review

Sharper Image SR277 - Left / right channel speakers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Appearance: The wireless speakers have an aerodynamic appearance to them and are made out of plastic. I'm fine with the plastic because I plan to use these outside and if it starts to rain or gets hit with the hose, I won't have to worry about anything.

Reception: I live in a townhouse with 4 units per building and the signal seems to work pretty darn good! I plugged the transmitter into my computer headphone jack (located in my basement) and the audio signals pass through the walls and floors. I was able carry the speakers to my first floor, second floor, outside and in my garage all with clear reception. The "auto tune" feature works great to find the clearest signal and I haven't experienced any problems with cordless phones causing interference.
Volume/Tuning controls: Having the volume and tuning controls on the speakers and on the wireless remote control make it easy to control the volume from anywhere.
Power: Each speaker requires 6 C batteries which tends to get a little pricey. However, the package also includes 2 AC power cords so you can just plug it in and run it off of electricity. So far, I've ran my speakers only on the batteries for about 5 hours and the batteries don't seem to be dying yet.
Sound: OK, now for the most important question, what kind of sound quality do these things put out? If you're expecting absolute, superior sound quality (like you would from some top of the line, wired speakers) then you may want to re-evaluate the idea of wireless speakers. If you're just looking to sit outside on the porch, around the pool or just kick back and listen to some music, these will work JUST fine! At first, the speakers sounded a bit bass heavy and somewhat "booming." But, after I adjusted all the audio settings on my computer (the source of the music), the quality GREATLY improved!

Sony SRS RF930RK - Wireless speaker system Review

Sony SRS RF930RK - Wireless speaker system
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I did read other reviews before I purchased. Like other mentioned, it will turn itself off after about 3-4 minutes after a popping noise, if there is no audio source input. You can plug your MP3 player directly to speaker as well. I don't have any problem to hook it up with 3 audio sources: one from my PC, one from my MP3 palyer, and one from my cellphone. I listen my music any where within my house (about 150 feets) without any problem. If I take it over 150 feets, there is a hissing sound. I give it 4 stars for this reason. Buy it if you love to listsen your music in bathroom, backyard, and basement... as I do.
Sound is good quality. Can't beat the price, either... Since my music library is on my pc, it just made sense to use the pc as the source.

Acoustic Research AW822 900 Mhz Outdoor Wireless Speaker (Single, Brown) Review

Acoustic Research AW822 900 Mhz Outdoor Wireless Speaker (Single, Brown)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The speaker sounds nice when it works, but just some scattered thoughts:
I ordered this speaker to have music on my deck. The original plan was to run music (ipod) from my living room receiver to the deck - which is 50 feet and one wall away. I wanted the same music in the living room as on the deck. The signal wasn't near powerful enough, even trying several different outputs - (and even after adjusting the ipod volume, etc, no luck) - to the point where music just wouldn't play. I do have an older home with plaster walls, so perhaps this was the problem. I wasn't expecting the advertised 250 feet, I understand that it would take a perfect scenario, but realistacally, if walls are involved, expect 20-30 feet. In order to use the speaker, I have to place the transmitter and ipod in my kitchen, which is just inside from the deck. The speaker does sound good, and the outdoor volume is adaquate. I wasn't expecting the wireless sound to be so good. There is ocasional static when someone crosses the line of the signal, or when the sliding door opens/closes. More gripes - once an album is done on the ipod, or any other source, the speaker goes to loud static - and scares everyone. It would be nice if there was an auto mute - the cure of course is to just use a very long play list. Also, there is no sound leveling. Many song files are different, so volumes can change per song. I know this is more of my problem (poor source) and it's not fair to complain of these things since they aren't advertised features, but just be aware of them. The best use for this would be if you had a huge deck, and you actually had the transmitter outside, and two of these speakers on the back corners or spread out on the deck. For $70 it's not bad. I wanted a stationary solution, but now I have to grab my ipod+ charger and move it to the kitchen to have sound outside. Just keep in mind the issues above and that the transmitter needs to be close for clear, static free sound.

Acoustic Research AW-811 Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Speaker (single) Review

Acoustic Research AW-811 Indoor/Outdoor Wireless Speaker (single)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's not pretty. The sound is not great. But it does what I wanted it to: gets sound from my living room receiver into the kitchen.
Setup is very easy. Everything you could need to connect is included. The unit tunes automatically so there is no fussing with a tuning knob. The auto-tuning is quick and effective.
As promised, the transmitter is compatible with my AW-721 cordless headphones. I now have both transmitters connected to my receiver. (It doesn't seem to help with static but why not.)
In general the signal seems to come through with little interference. The sound is slightly distorted, something I had noticed with the headphones also. It is also overall somewhat tinny. It is hard to say whether that is from the transmission or the just all-right speaker.
One nice feature they don't advertise: if you buy the eight (!) C batteries needed to make this truly portable, you can charge them in the unit. (If you buy NiCad or NiMH batteries- try www.thomas-distributing.com)
Apparently, Acoustic Research and Advent are the same manufacturer.

For excellent omnidirectional outdoor stereo sound without messy wires, the Acoustic Research AW-811 single speaker provides patented 900 MHz wireless technology, which lets your signal transmit through walls, floors and ceilings at distances of up to 300 ft. (depending on source) inside your house or outside with no line of sight required between the speaker and transmitter. Plus, you can put the speaker wherever you like; its water-resistant design lets the AW-811 thrive outdoors and indoors, and in humid areas such as kitchens and baths. Plus the speaker will tune to the transmitter automatically, at the touch of a button. Since this comes as a single speaker, you can adjust sound with the stereo/mono switch to optimize the sound of the digital amplifier (second speakers, required for stereo sound, are sold separately). Controls include one easy to use knob for the 3-in-1 power, tuning, and volume control, and a channel select switch that lets you change transmission frequencies to operate more than one 900 MHz product within the same area. To help eliminate extra noise, the speaker comes with a RF noise reduction system. This speaker is also designed to be moved; there's a built-in folding handle, a non-skid surface (so you can use it as a tabletop), and it runs on either 8 C batteries (not included) or an AC adaptor. The batteries self-charge when the unit is plugged in. You can even take the speaker inside and use it with any RCA-compatible device, such as your TV, DVD player, A/V receiver, VCR, portable CD player, computer, and more.

Soundcast SOU-OCJ410 OutCast JR Wireless Speaker Review

Soundcast SOU-OCJ410 OutCast JR Wireless Speaker
Average Reviews:

This speaker kicks ass, I own two of them. The only thing is I wish it had a soft case you could put it in because the outside gets scuffed and smudged extremely easily and you can't get the marks off. These things can take a pretty good beating. Battery life is great to and the options for wireless/wired ipod and battery/acdc adapter use is just awesome. Totally loud and great bass and knocks the socks off of any competitive product. Actually, I take that back, this product doesn't HAVE a competitive product because nothing comes close to being as versatile and great-sounding.

The initial quality is great, but after a few months I found many quirks that don't justify a large price tag. First complaint is that the "audio in" jack snapped it now jiggles around creating static if I can even get it to pick up the feed. The second is the interference with my Wifi network, the transmitter drastically reduced the strength and range of my network. I also use a Sonos system that is also effected by the transmitter. Engineers should be fired, and ill take my money back!

Rocketfish Digital Wireless Speakers RF-WS01 - Wireless speaker system - 8 Watt (total) - 2-way Review

Rocketfish Digital Wireless Speakers RF-WS01 - Wireless speaker system - 8 Watt (total) - 2-way
Average Reviews:

I've seen a number of negative reviews regarding volume on the RF-WS01. Mine arrived two days ago and I was very disappointed at first. So much so that I decided to sell them on eBay, with a notation about the lack of volume. To create a nice photo I hooked up the wireless sender to an MP3 player, and practically damaged my ear-drums. Here's what I learned: The Volume On The Music Source MUST Be Turned Up To Maximum, and then adjust the volume on the speakers.
I plan on keeping the speakers. They're very nice.

ZOpid - 2.4 GHz Weather-Resistant Stereo Wireless Speakers with built-in Rechargeable Battery (Black) Review

ZOpid - 2.4 GHz Weather-Resistant Stereo Wireless Speakers with built-in Rechargeable Battery (Black)
Average Reviews:

I have been searching for RECHARGEABLE wireless speakers for a while. I like to relax in a part of my yard with no electricity and I didn't want battery-operated speakers and I didn't want to spend too much (I know, a lot to ask). These speakers are better that I hoped. I use them with my PC music collection - I just found that I needed to place the receiver as far as possible from my wireless router - the sound was very clear and the rechargeable batteries lasted approx. 5 hours with a decent sound level. They seem sturdy enough and very transportable. Follow the instruction label placed on the box and you will save a lot of aggravation (you are not sure whether they are charging or not if you don't read it). I am very pleased for the money.

Royal Machines 29297W WES 600 Wireless Stereo Speaker System Review

Royal Machines 29297W WES 600 Wireless Stereo Speaker System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My hearing is getting bad and to avoid turning the volume up substantially on my TV set, I wanted to place speakers closer to our sitting stations. Plus, the speakers on the TV leave a lot to be desired anyway.
Initially I was very pleased for ease of hook up, sound etc. However, for the speakers to work as desired, the control volume needed to be turned up to max. volume. In this range the speakers had a distinct background sound (unsure how to describe). I guess this is typical of low wattage speakers when running at max. volume.
They in fact improved the sound volume but the background sound/feedback was more than what we expected. Its not like there not tolerable, to others, this may-not be an issue.
The price is reasonable for the speakers, their size leaves a small footprint and are nice looking for the price. All the necessary accessories/hardware is include to connect (except batteries), each speaker has its own power cord included. I used a separate remote control to power off the speakers rather than to turn off each speaker on/off switch, which are small and difficult to see (on the speaker side).
I didn't want to go the surround-sound route, however I may do so. Debating at this time, if I should return the merchandise.

JBL Control 2.4G On Air Wireless Speaker System (Pair) Review

JBL Control 2.4G On Air Wireless Speaker System (Pair)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Here's the good news: The sound quality is nice. The frequency response seems very detailed, and these diminutive speakers pack more bass than looks would suggest. No complaints about the sound quality.
Here's the bad news: These speakers have MANY very serious flaws that make them unusable.
1) The speakers have a timeout mechanism - they go into a standby mode if the sound stops transmitting. That's fine, but the standby mode mechanism is very overeager: the speakers often enter standby if the music volume stops, or even if the volume just gets a little too quiet, for a short period of time - even as little as 5 seconds. So the speakers can go into standby even during a quiet section of otherwise loud music, and the wakeup process is not trivial: it may take 10 seconds or more to reacquire the signal once the music kicks in again. Worse, this quirk is hard-coded and not adjustable; you can't disable or adjust the standby mechanism.
In short, these $200+ speakers have a tendency to cut out the music for 25 seconds or more when it dips too low. That is a fatal flaw. And it's not the only one:
2) These speakers will SHUT DOWN your Wi-Fi network. I have a very recent 802.11g router (a Motorola SBG900), and when there's music streaming to the speakers, my bandwidth drops from a steady 200kbps to about 5kbps. Seriously. If I unplug the transmitters (which are 10' away from both the router and the receiving computer), my bandwidth comes to life; if I plug 'em in again, my bandwidth vanishes immediately. It's terrible.
3) JBL made some very strange choices with regard to the cabling. The cable from the right speaker to the left is about 25 feet long - a bizarrely long connection for such small speakers - and unless you want to splice it, you're going to have a rat's-nest tangle of excess cable hanging somewhere between or behind the speakers. Meanwhile, the power cable is only about 18" between the active speaker and the power brick; and the power cable coming out of the brick is only about 3' long. As a result, if you mount the speakers 6' high, you'll have a massive black brick with a glowing green LED dangling at about 3', and probably a hookup to a longer power cable about 1' off the floor. It's quite sad; JBL must not have tried to actually mount these speakers before they shipped 'em out.
4) Speaking of mounting: The speakers come with wall mounting brackets that look sturdy at first glance. However, the speakers are very boxy - about 5" deep - so they'll project noticeably from the wall. Much worse, the mounting bracket is very poorly designed. For example, the speakers mount on a ball-and-socket bolt that's *way* too long - you'll see an extra 1.5" inches of bolt projecting from the wall mounting, for no particular reason. (In fact, JBL doesn't seem to trust the integrity of the bracket; they include a camera-strap-like thing for fastening the speaker to the bracket, in case it fails. Creepy.)
5) Want to buy extra speakers and dial 'em in to the same channel? Of course you do; it's wireless, right? Well, not so fast. First, JBL won't sell you *just* the speakers, so you have to buy a whole 'nother set - including a second transmitter - at full price. Second, the wireless setup has a hard limit of two speaker sets per transmitter channel. I own three sets of these speakers, and only two connect to the transmitter at any one time. I don't know why; it's completely capricious, and it severely limits the extensibility of the system.
It's really tragic that JBL made such terrible ancillary choices, because the prime virtue of these speakers - the sound quality - is very nice. But the convenience and sound quality aren't worth the hassles... particularly at such a high price point.
Bottom line: Avoid. Avoid at all costs. These things are FATALLY flawed. JBL needs to recall them and fix them... and if they don't, I'm certainly never buying their equipment again.
- David Stein

A bit on the pricey side, but well worth the cost. Have used it
exclusively on a screened-in porch and it has performed flawlessly. I deliberately waited until I had ten hours of varied

word OUTSTANDING comes to mind. Great sound, no fluttering, no
static, easy set-up, easy to use(especially with controls mounted
on the speaker itself), sturdy construction, and a contemporary

Soundcast ICO411A 100W OutCast Wwi Transmitter Review

Soundcast ICO411A 100W OutCast Wwi Transmitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Outcast a few weeks ago after seeing 2 of my neighbors using theirs for a few months.
First thing which put me off was the price - these things are just not cheap BUT they are not cheap build or sound quality either.
If I'm honest I think they are pricing their selves a little too high but I bit the bullet and forked out the money and once you forget how much it just set you back you love the product.
The sound quality is extremely good. The soundcast has a nice vibrant base tone while the mid and high end tones are still very clear.
The sound carries well too, remember this is predominantly for outdoor use and we have quite a big yard which the soundcast has no problem filling with sound!
Battery life is good too. I have charged it twice now in 5 weeks and we have it on outside every night.
Simple to set up and use would be an understatement, I took it out the box, charged it, plugged my Ipod into the transmitter, switched it on and bingo - music!
To summarize - it is very expensive, it is very heavy, but it's easy to set up, durable waterproof, has a great sound and I'm happy with it!
Would just be that little bit nicer if it had a remote control.

Audio Unlimited Premium 900MHz Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Speakers withRemote and Dual Power Transmitter (Pink)
Average Reviews:

I purchased these speakers two years ago refurbished for $89. I placed one speaker in a room that is 30 x 42 and connected it to a laptop and LCD projector and had an instant home theater. The remote can not turn on the speakers which doesn't make sense, but the sound is just fine. In my house I have a 5.8 ghz Uniden 4 phones system and G wireless router which does not interfere with the signal. If you have a 900 mhz phone or baby monitor nearby it might mess up as with any wireless device operating in the 900 spectrum. You can power the speakers with D size batteries or plug the speakers into an outlet which is the way I used it and have no problems. I saw a teacher in my building use the same speakers which made me decided to by a pair for myself. The speakers are close to the size of a 2 liter bottle and sound like computer speakers. You are not getting Bose quality speakers, so don't expect perfection. They are good computer quality speakers that give you wireless capabilities.

Works right out of the box. Hooked it up to my cable box inside the house, applied power, extended antenna. Installed batteries (8 C cells.)Pressed the on button. It does thump twice. Once on turn on then again when base comes on. It lights up blue so you can find it in the dark. Large volume knob on top. Water repellent. There are no treble or base controls. However it has very good balanced natural sound. The sound is great AND LOUD! No distortion, or static. I walked it 80ft to the far end of my property and still worked fine. The inside unit is light weight. The outside unit with batteries is a good weight and won't blow away in the wind. I use it on my swim spa. It gets splashed but still keeps working. I have run it for 2 hours on batteries and it never distorted. Don't know how long the batteries last. It doe come with a 12v supply for the outside and inside units. Or both will operate on batteries.

I was searching for wireless speakers for an outdoor event, and I'm certain these will do nicely. While it's true that the transmitter needs to be plugged into the music source (via a standard headphone jack that will fit all devices I would need it to) and into a wall outlet, I expected that. For a test run I plugged into my laptop sitting in the middle of the first floor then slotted 6 AA batteries into the speaker and turned it on. It automatically picked up the signal. I took a walk around the house and got about 100' away and still got good signal. I also like the feature to select L,R,or Mono on the speaker itself. Bass boost helps the sound a lot. Also, I was able to run 4 speakers from 1 transmitter. Don't know yet about interference or battery life for the speaker. I love the aesthetics of it.

This speaker looks beautiful. They did a great job of the design. I was playing it as a second speaker, hooking up to my Brookstone Boombox, and using the transmitter the speaker rock came with. The speaker sounded pretty good, however it started to break up after a few minutes. Seems like it never really kept the signal. It would work intermettintly. Great idea, great look, but couldn't get it to work continuosly. I worked with customer support who said that it is possible that the transmitter was defective. However I felt like it was just not going to work. Ended up returning it, sadly :(.
