There is NO audio out jack to plug-in wired head phones.
There is NO provision to use wireless head phones.
The ONLY workable option is to play through the vehicle's car stereo or have a jack wired in to allow the use of wired head - phones.

There are excellent products in this area available. Don't get stuck with this over-priced,technology backward unit.

Low light visibilty is also very good. The one complaint was it didn't come with the Allen head as pictured but regular hex bolts which is not exactly theft resistant. But overall very good product.

Boyo VTL420 Black with Plastic Housing Bar Type CCD Camera Review

(More customer reviews)It says it's black with plastic housing, but it's actually metal. The only plastic is within the metal shell, and I doubt that would be any problem. The image is quite good during the day. The drawback to a wide-angle view is that objects are closer than they appear. But at least you can see behind well. At night, the image is grainy, but you can still see quite well despite that fact that it does not have any IR lighting. It's not necessary.
This unit has an odd hook up compared to most of these license plate cameras. All of the connections are at the end of the long cable, some 25+ feet away from the camera. Most units expect you to hook into the rear tail light for reverse power up, but this one seems to want to you to hook up to the reverse relay coming out of the fuse box I (no direction on that, you have to figure out your wiring yourself since every car is different). Googling your car model and backup camera will likely yield results. The forward connection worked fine for me as this connection was easily available. Then I ran the video cable through the firewall existing hole. So the junction connections are in an area under the hood. I put them into a "project box" from Radio Shack to tidy things up, and velcro'd the box to the side wall. I ran the cable under the car and used the same type of cable covering/housing that the rest of the wiring for the car uses. Home Depot sells 10' sections for less than three dollars. Zip tied it along the frame, being careful to avoid areas that will get hot (tailpipe, etc).
Why'd I give it 3 stars? The 4 individual wires are quite small, and the camera connects to the long cable by a tiny connector plug that is not waterproof (short-out potential?). I guess they probably expect this will be inside your car, but trucks don't work that way. I taped it up with electrical tape and it is also in the aforementioned cable housing, so I'm sure it will be fine. The forward connection is a nice seemingly waterproof connection, similar to an s-video plug. For me reversing these would have been a better idea, but I can see why they did it: the tiny one is much more flush if it's inside the car.
Certainly worth it for the money. Hopefully it'll last.
Update 9/9/2010: The shiny black finish has become dull even though the car is garaged daily and has very few miles since I installed the camera. Camera still works though.

Boyo VTM3000 3-Inch Monitor for Rear-View Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered this because of the price, yes I was trying to get off cheap and at $130 off it seemed like a steal, but after recieving it I think I was the victim. Now I expected it to be small, but take the picture they show and divide by half and you might be close. Most cell phones these days had larger screens. Ok, I can live with it, I'll just have to mount it real close, but the so-called manual you get is a single page and you get no more information other than the contents in the box. There is nothing about wiring suggestion, voltage or anything. Before I bought this item I did go to Boyo website, read reviews, which naturally made it sound like it was the best thing out there. Obviously they edit reviews !
Now I am quite capable of hooking up car stereos, home stereos, setting up a home network, all the home tech stuff, but atleast 99% send a detailed manual or even a customer support line, not these guys. I have yet to install this item, I just openned the box and saw what was shipped and thought I had better write a post before someone else falls into this trap.
Maybe if your a professional installer you might not see this as a problem, but you know you'll be laughing at anyone else who buys this, because you know they'll need to come to you to install it.
I blame myself for trying to save money ( again I knew it would be small ), but I also blame Boyo and Amazon, I tried to get as much info about this product as I could before buying it. As I said Boyo had rave reviews, but do nothing more than offer a email "contact us" way of support. I partially blame Amazon because they don't check what they sell, only rely on it's customers, I think they should require from vendors more info or a sample of the product before tossing it up to it's customers.

The camera is barely visible on the license plate frame when you look at the back of the truck, but with it's good quality CCD sensor and 150 degree angle provides a very good picture.

(More customer reviews)After a lot of research on Amazon in search of the perfect reverse cam add-on for my VW Touareg SUV, I settled for this product; even though there were little or no reviews to aid my decision but I just relied on the product specifications hoping it will do what it says it will do. The Item shipped in promptly as ordered, I hired a professional to install it, who told me that he was more familiar with more established brands as this brand was barely known, and he hopes it will last in the long haul. It worked fine as the picture quality was good enough even in night vision with a good viewing angle. But unfortunately after three days it started blinking and picture-fading intermittently, it continued until the fifth day when it finally went blank and practically died on me. I took it back to the installer you tried checking it, trying to see if there was any breach in connection but everything was fine. He told me that he had installed so many reverse cams for different vehicles but this is the first time a reverse cam will fail and become faulty in such a short time being just within a week. I really do regret buying this product; I should have just gone with known brands like PIONEER or PANASONIC. I am so upset that I wasted 160 Dollars on such a piece of crap that I can't even get myself to un-loose and send it back. I highly DO-NOT recommend this product for anyone desiring a reverse cam that will work and stay working.

Boyo VTL425 Ultra Slim Black Bar Type License Plate Camera Review

(More customer reviews)This license plate backup camera works great! The picture is great day or night on my Pioneer Z110BT. The product is well made and sturdy. The only negative is that the install is a little involved. I needed to take apart many of the panels on the inside of the vehicle to run the wire up to the front, and it ended up being just a little too short. I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was able to run the wire a little differently to get the wire length to work for me. The mounting bolts also must be tightened from the inside of the tailgate, but that does make it highly resistant to theft. All in all, it is a good product and I would buy it again.
