(More customer reviews)Firstly, although I bought this product for my in-laws who like it, I purchased and have been using just the wireless speaker system (not the bundle, but the speaker part is identical), which I'm reviewing here. While I like the product, I still have some criticisms after 8 months of use. I'm giving this product 4 stars because it works fine, and essentially that is the most important attribute. If I was just ranking customer service and product design, I would give it one star. A classic case of a product succeeding in spite of itself.
The good: it works fine out of the box. Although it is marketed as being wireless (and is for the most part), you must plug in both the speaker unit and the transmitter (the unit that connects to the TV) into a wall outlet- no big deal, but something to keep in mind.
The bad, starting with design: The color of the speaker unit is an ugly shade of brown. I find the color choice facinating, because I don't know of any audio/visual electronic device made in the last 50 years that is brown. On second thought how about ANY electronic device made outside of North Korea? When was the last time you saw a TV that was brown? A boombox? A DVD player, cellphone, computer, etc. etc. May not seem like a big deal, but I like my components to match. Apparently, I'm not the only one, as I called another distributor of this product to see if it came in black and the phone order person told me they got lots of requests for a black unit. Interestingly, the transmitter is black. Go figure.
My biggest complaint centers on the wire connections. Each unit has two inputs. Any of the wires can fit into most of the others (maybe not perfectly, but in the dark it is easy to do. This may not be a factor for most if you set it up once and leave it, but we only set it up when needed (see last paragraph). I still have to look close and make sure I'm inserting the correct lead strait into the correct receptical. It would cost no more to manufacture this product in black and design inputs that only accept the correct wire lead, or color code them.
Customer Service: My unit arrived missing all documentation (manual/instructions). I placed two calls to customer service to request one. I eventually just went to the web and downloaded the instructions. Over a MONTH later a kindly woman called me from customer service to follow up. She thought I called the day before (?!)
Finally, I think this device is totally mis-marketed. All the packaging photos show senior senior citizens. I'm middle-aged with no hearing problems and two kids under 5. The reason my wife and I bought this is so we can watch TV/Movies late at night at a decent volume without waking the kids. And for the ability not wake the little ones, this product is priceless and worthy of 4 stars!
